What Is WWE Brawl?

Category: Industry/Multiplatform, Posted: 07/10/2011 at 11:25AM EDT by Jason Fanelli, Associate Editor

What is WWE Brawl?

I'm going to break the normal news format here, because I'm not quite how else to report this but with an anecdote:

The video above popped up on my Facebook page last night, a friend of mine posted it and asked "Tell me what I just watched..." Unfortunately, I couldn't do that, as I thought the video he posted was a REALLY ambitious (and fake) fan project. However, then I did some digging...

See, way back in April, the day before WWE Wrestlemania 27 in Atlanta, the WWE held their annual Business Partners Summit to talk about their new initiatives. The keynote from that summit, in its entirety, can be watched here. If you skip the video to...

Uncharted film gets new director

Category: Industry/Multiplatform, Posted: 07/08/2011 at 02:07PM EDT by Mike Murphy, News Director

Neil Burger

A month-and-a-half after David O. Russell was given the boot as the helmsman of the film adaptation to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Sony has announced that "Limitless" director Neil Burger will be his replacement.

Burger got the job as the film's new director when he impressed producers Avi Arad, Charles Roven, and Alex Gartner with his own take on the flick, one that is reportedly more closely tied to the game. He will also be reworking the project, which was originally written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

In addition to "Limitless", which released earlier this year and starred Bradley Cooper, Burger also directed the 2006 film "The Illusionist" that starred Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, and Paul Giamatti. "Limitless" released with a production cost of $27 million and has s...

bioshock infinite

The time has come, the time is now. BioShock Infinite fifteen minute E3 demo, will you please go now?

BioShock Infinite is Irrational Games' follow-up to its 2007 sci-fi horror shooter set in an underwater dystopia. In a complete reversal of expectations (Surprise!), Irrational has taken Infinite to the skies in the floating city of Columbia. It stinks of the same social and political decay of its predecessor, but this game is a whole new beast (with a big, new beast) as the recently released gameplay footage shows.

In an interview with GameTrailers (also posted below), which originally aired the footage, Irrational Creative Director Ken Levine says that all fifteen minutes are genuine game. Granted, the options chosen by the driver in the demo are only a reflection of one way to approach th...

Whether or not this film will be a direct adaptation of the popular RPG of the same name or an expansion of the Mass Effect universe is unknown. Final Fantasy Theatrhythm

Square Enix has unveiled a brand new Final Fantasy game coming to the Nintendo 3DS, but it won't be a typical Final Fantasy experience. The new title, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, will be a rhythm game.

Unveiled in the Japanese magazine Jump and translated by Andriasang, the game is being officially called a "Theater Rhythm Action" game. It will feature normal towns and dungeons, but battles will take place in the side view of older series titles where players will need to tap the touch screen in accordance to prompts.

The music will be taken from previous installments in the Final Fantasy series, as will the characters. Depicted in the tiny "chibi" style, franchise heroes such as Cloud and Lightning will star. They will be joining other classic Final Fantasy characters in a quest to return li...

Rockstar likely to cut ties with Team Bondi

Category: Industry/Multiplatform, Posted: 07/05/2011 at 04:34PM EDT by Anthony LaBella, Writer/Reporter

L.A. Noire

Despite L.A. Noire's critical and financial success, things have been looking down for developer Team Bondi with the recent IGDA investigation of unfair working conditions. Now it looks like its relationship with Rockstar Games may be deteriorating.

A source who previously worked at Team Bondi explains that the partnership with Rockstar is likely over.

"I've heard a lot about Rockstar's disdain for Team Bondi, and it has been made quite clear that they will not publish Team Bondi's next game," said the former staff member. "Team Bondi are trying to find another publisher for their next title, but the relationship with Rockstar has been badly damaged - Brendan treats L.A. Noire like a success due to his vision but I think Rockstar are the ones who saved the project."

The source then went on to...

The ESA

Video games used to be known as a hobby for minors, but the latest Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry report by the Entertainment Software Association shows that is no longer the case as a massive 82 percent majority of all gamers are actually adults.

The annual report revealed that less than a fifth of all gamers are actually under the age of 18. Most adult gamers, 53 percent of the whole, range from age 18-49. Surprisingly, over a quarter of all gamers, 29 percent, are over the age of 50.

Results for the average gamer age is also surprising, as the ESA report announced that to be 37, with the average age of those purchasing the games to be 41. Both of these are up two years from the organization's 2009 report.

The gender gap in regards to people playing games continu...

Batman: Arkham City

Warner Bros. Entertainment has given everyone a 4th of July present today with the release of a new 12-minute gameplay video of Batman: Arkham City. The new video showcases the events that took place during the game's E3 2011 demo.

The gameplay starts out not as the Caped Crusader himself, but as Selena Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman. She is seen breaking into a decrepit court house within Arkham City and beating up a bunch of cronies.

Catwoman's trying to steal something from a safe when we find out who's safe it is: Harvey Dent's. His pistol points to her head as he threatens her to put down what she's taken, some sort of chip that can fit into a smart phone, and the scene cuts out.

It then returns to Batman, where we see him beat up thugs and solve a Riddler puzzle while on his way to rescue Kyle fr...

Media Molecule walking away from LBP

Category: Industry/Multiplatform, Posted: 07/01/2011 at 11:58AM EDT by Mike Murphy, News Director

LittleBigPlanet

Media Molecule completely revolutionized the way people look at games and how to mod within them thanks to LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2, but during a talk at the Gamelab 2011 conference in Barcelona, the developer revealed that it will stepping away from the franchise that made it famous.

"We're stepping away from LittleBigPlanet to focus on some new ideas," said studio director Siobhan Reddy.

This won't be the end of the studio's involvement with LBP and LBP 2 just yet. The developer is still working on the PlayStation Move update for the sequel.

The decision to move on isn't too surprising given the fact that the customization and modding options in the games are so high that Media Molecule didn't even believe they needed to make a sequel after releasing the original LBP. The commu...
