For the eighth time in program history and third under the direction of head coach Janusz Bednarski, Notre Dame has claimed the national championship. The Irish held off Penn State to earn the title.
It was the women's turn Saturday at the NCAA Fencing Championships and with only one day left in the competition, Penn State remains in second behind Notre Dame. Final day action begins at 9:30 a.m. ET.
Notre Dame maintained its overall lead at the 2011 NCAA Championships after day two on Friday at the French Field House and St. John Arena, holding a six point advantage over second place Penn State.
Notre Dame is off to a tremendous start at the 2011 Fencing Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The Irish amassed 61 points to sit in first-place ahead of Penn State by eight points.
