The odds-on favourite makes it to number two on our list, missing the top spot by a mere handful of votes but lauded just the same. By far the most popular in Square's epic JRPG series, FFVII is the game credited with truly bringing that particular genre to the Western masses. Coming on four discs, the game was packed with beautifully rendered cut-scenes, an engaging, environmentally-conscious story, gloriously detailed summons and one of gaming's most iconic villains in silver-haired swordsman, Sephiroth. Arguably the most epic adventure ever to grace a games console, FFVII has been often imitated but never bettered - even by subsequent Final Fantasies.
