Women's Leadership

Advocacy

Ongoing advocacy programs aim to raise awareness of the harmful attitudes and practices that hinder the development of women across the world. The obstacles that these issues pose are impediments to equality, social and economic development, security, health and peace for all.

Beijing Circles
Beijing Circles are a tool which helps us educate ourselves and one another about issues affecting women globally, so we can advocate within our church and the world to bring about positive change.

Statistics on Women in the Episcopal Church
The statistics and information on this page provide information about ordained women in the Episcopal Church.

HIV and AIDS
Rates of HIV/AIDS infection are rising most rapidly among young women 15-24. Gender inequality and poverty produce specific conditions that make young women nearly 3 times more likely to contract HIV than their male peers.

The Girl Child
Nearly 60% of the 130 million children not enrolled in school are girls. 15 million girls aged 15-19 will give birth each year, increasing their likelihood of complications like obstetric fistulas and childbirth-related death.

Human Trafficking
It is estimated that as many as 4 million people are trafficked each year, the majority of which are women and children who face forced labor, slavery-like conditions, and sexual exploitation. Human trafficking has given rise to large-scale organized crime and is estimated to take in US$5-7 billion in profits each year.
