Call of Duty voice actor hints at Modern Warfare 3

[UPDATE] Craig Fairbrass--voice of COD4's Gaz and Modern Warfare 2's Ghost--says he has "been in LA working on something" for Activision; Modern Warfare 2 sales top 27 million.

Though Activision has yet to formally announce Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, new intelligence continues to trickle out. Today, it comes from Craig Fairbrass, an iconic voice actor from the series.

Fairbrass--who voiced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Gaz and Modern Warfare 2's Ghost--was a guest on Andy Goldstein's Sports Bar radio show, a United Kingdom program, last night. The voice actor said he has been working on something he can't say too much about.

"Yeah, I did Call of Duty Modern Warfare as Gaz, then I did Ghost in Modern Warfare 2, which has become one of the most iconic figures in the history of computer games," he said.

"I've just been out in [Los Angeles] doing something…I've been out doing some bits and pieces, and one of it's to do with err…can't say too much, you know what I mean…"

[UPDATE] As it turns out, Fairbrass offered more than just a passing correlation to his work in LA and his Call of Duty resume. As part of the same interview, he went on to confirm that he recorded voice work for Activision earlier this year, in addition to describing a bit of the process.

"You do like five, six, seven sessions…and they record it in this great big studio in Los Angeles, which is absolutely mental," he said. "I was at it from January to the end of February, Activision took me to their hub, I was a guest for the day, and they took me all around and they showed me how the game--you know, these games are like $200 million to produce. This place was like the size of 10 factories, there was all these people working."

Fairbrass also provided a sales update for the Modern Warfare franchise, saying Activision informed him that 27 million units had now been sold. Though Fairbrass wasn't explicitly clear, that figure likely pertains to just Modern Warfare 2, as Activision said in June 2010 that the game had already sold more than 20 million units. Further, Activision said in August 2009 that the original Modern Warfare had itself sold more than 14 million units. As of November 2009, franchise sales stood at more than 55 million units.

Infinity Ward--based in Los Angeles--is reportedly working on Modern Warfare 3 alongside Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games. The game is expected to ship this November, in line with previous releases in the now-annualized series.

    Uhh... What?

First of all, I would like to know where in my post I said that I wanted to kill myself over a video game O_o

Second of all, assuming by your hilariously exaggerated comments, you're a troll...

Normally, I would feed you some more, but... I'm sorry, you're a very boring troll.

(And so this post isn't entirely off-topic - since when is Ghost an iconic character? If any CoD game has produced an iconic character, it would be Viktor Reznov in my book... Though, that is still very arguable.)

@ThePurpleBubble I played Modern Warfare after Black Ops and it felt a lot different and outdated. so who cares if people enjoy playing a new COD every year? does it really ruin your life to the point where you're about to kill yourself over a video game? either play or don't play COD, end of story. no reason to cry over it and say "omg I'm so tired of Activision milking" in every story about COD. and what's up with your obsession with cows?

I try to refrain from commenting on here, but I have to lol. People should not be surprised by the new COD and I'm betting here that after MW3 it will be the beginning of the end of the franchise. UNLESS they change it up a bit (new engine, innovative multiplayer, better single player, co-op, etc.) But I have a feeling in my gut that almost NONE of these things will happen. Activision loves milking the cow and we have seen them destroy many iconic, innovative titles. And who ever said that franchises like Battlefield and Halo became derivative, I do not agree with that. Those developers PUSHED the expectations each release and were determined to create a quality experience within the same universe (new engines, better online play, different weapons, etc.) So far COD has only done that with MW1. Expect to see the downfall of COD soon.

I can name about a million game characters people know better than they know "Ghost". MARIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luigi, Link, Zelda, Peach, Lara Croft, Guile (Street Fighter)
Master Chief, Ryu (Street Fighter & Ninja Gaiden) Duke Nukem, Solid Snake, Samus, Joanna Dark, Marcus Fenix, Crash Bandicoot
Banjo & Kazooie............................ Do I really need to keep going? It irritates the hell out of me how actors go around bragging thinking they've done the biggest most famous job since Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa. Now honestly how many people here knew who did the voice of "Ghost" before they read this article? And, out of that same group of people how many knew that David Hayter did the voice of Solid Snake?

Why do people always bash on Call of Duty? Yeah I agree that the CoD games are kind of repetitive as far as models, weapons and plots go. But couldnt you say that about pretty much every game series? Look at games like Halo, Battlefield, Gears of War, Medal of Honor. With the exception of different time and battle eras, they are all the same. This goes for all FPS games. Take Halo, they have had the same enemies and guns since 2001 and people are still crazy about new installments. At least CoD changes it up a bit. People buy new series of games because they are DIFFERENT. I have bought every installment of the CoD and i think they did a great job on ALL of them. I love the story lines in every game and have played them multiple times. I think a lot of the people who judge CoD games is because they only play multilplayer, which i would agree it is kind of repetitive, and they dont give the storyline a chance. I love Call of Duty and cannot wait to see what Activision has in store for us!

    @coylenintendo

Have you ever heard the term "cash cow"? It means something makes a lot of money with virtually no effort required - as far as video games go, CoD is as effortless as they get at this point... Take Modern Warfare, slap a new coat of paint on it, call it done.

It isn't just a video game saying - pretty much everyone uses that term.

And, yes, Activision is, in fact, milking their gun-toting cash cow. And, no, I am not one of those people who plays Black Ops all day. I own it, sure, but that is pretty much just for local play when friends come over. Face it - Black Ops is exactly the same as MW2, which was exactly the same as MW.

Doesn't mean anything until I hear it from Graham McTavish. And every shooter is essentially the same game. Every sequel is the same game as its predecessor. People who keep bringing this up are just looking for excuses to rip the game.

@enriK233...you dont like the single player which is actually good, but like the multi player where theres a bunch of 8-16 year olds that camp, use noob tubes, noob perks, noob guns, like little pvssies.??? Not to mention more than half the people in MW2/BO cheat like fvcking nerds. Fact, is, cod sucked after MW1. The last cod to take skill was cod2. I was stupid to buy MW2, and BO, but i've learned my lesson and will 100% not be buying this POS game that will be the SAME SH1T as the others.

    @ShroomyGrl I assume you've never played Counterstrike?
CoD is the Unreal Tournament of Modern Day technology, maybe (although shallower) - It's run and gun and twitch, or camp and twitch.
Counterstrike is 3 round bursts max, dead and out, walk around corners and muffle footsteps, use teamwork. CoD is none of that, not even in the CS clone modes, its not even close to CS. Maybe Tactical Ops from the old Unreal engine. Maybe.

This may be just me, but I don't think we have a right saying that the same thing comes out every year. Between the developers (Infinity Ward being my personal favorite) they have at least two years to revamp the formula every time. I think it's just that Treyarch (in my opinion) tends to borrow from Infinity Ward's engine too much rather than building amazing innovations on their own. If Infinity Ward or even the joint efforts of all three studios can pull off MW3 then I'm willing to bet it will be an amazing title. Also on another note, I think Black Ops owes it's success primarily to how well MW and MW2 did because "the masses" thought Black Ops was a sequel to MW2 (which it isn't if you haven't already been informed).

  • Draxargh

Oh boy, another game on CoD MW1's engine! Now with chemical bombs!
Not that I'm a hater, I did love MW1, traded it in for WAW (Dissapointed) MW2 (dissapointed) traded it in towards Black Ops. But this time, I think I'm trading BO towards B3. BC2 had far superior multiplayer (at least on the PC, I didn't play the PS3 version), and B3 is definately taking the cake. At least as a quality game.
Unless MW3 uses some new tech, I think I'm all set.

@Coylenintendo. I'm not going to sit and argue if I do or do not play black Ops, theres No need. But if ya think I do well then I think you need Glasses. I given the game a try played Campain ( Boring a Odd cliff hanger) Multiplayer is like every other FPS game, but it takes less skill. The game will do good becuase There are more Casual gammers than hard core. so Bad games like this Please the Masses

Im done with CoD. Dont get me wrong its a great game but it needs to be retired already. Best CoD Ive ever played was MW. Im waiting for "B3". Everything about Battlefield is better. For example you actually have to aim a bit higher to hit a target 200 yards out. You camp behind a wall, the wall blows up killing you, or even camping in side a house, bring the house down. Vehicles just makes it all the better.

COD is currently THE best FPS in the market, so it would make perfect sense to milk it dry until a better game prove itself worthy of the FPS crown. So for all of you haters out there .. please .. oh please, take a chill-pill ! sounds reasonable?

  • Mr_Pieman

    Posted May 3, 2011 10:50 pm PT

@coylenintendo - I hate to say it, but COD is a prime example of a video game being milked. Going on 5 games in 5 years, all with a 5-7 hour campaign, putting a cliff hanger at the end of the game, and same old multiplayer. All going for $70 every year. And EVERYONE falls for it, leading to a new sequel every year with no end in site.. If you can't call that milking, than what is it? This is a terrible tradition, and I for one got tired of the game after COD 4. But it continues to sell well, and until people start realizing that a great campaign that lasts an afternoon isn't really worth $70, theres gonna be more.

Also what's the point of a cliff hanger at the end of a 5-7 hour game? Thats like if the Legend of Zelda : OoT ended with Young Link pulling the sword out, but you would have to buy OoT2 if you wanted to see what happens next. MILKING

oh and btw, quick scoping is an attempt from the cod addicts to add some sort of depth to the game and separating pros from noobs, sadly you can be 10th prestige and even then a guy who's only played the game for 2 hours still has a legit chance at beating you...

mw3 is going to sell well just like every other cod game, why? because it's simple, 0 recoil, precision scope aiming abuse non existent character stamina, easy earn killstreaks, it's an easy game plain and simple, doesn't take much to be good at it

Everyone will wait on BF3 to play MW3. I'll most likely pick up both but all the CoD fans know what they like and they will only play CoD and won't even give BF3 a chance. I know its sad they don't give another game a chance.
