Smalling

Chris Smalling

Chris is a 6’4” central defender who made his Premier League bow as a Fulham substitute in their final fixture of 2008-09 against Everton at Craven Cottage. He was then 19.

At international level he made an England debut for the U20s in a friendly against Italy at QPR in March 2009, substituting for James Tomkins, and for Stuart Pearce’s Under-21s in a friendly with Holland in Groningen on 11 August in the same year, this time replacing Jack Rodwell. England kept clean sheets in both games.

Chris went on to start for the Under-21s against Portugal and Lithuania, with England’s defence again unbreached, and to enjoy an extended period in Fulham’s first team before signing for Manchester United in 2010.
