By the time he had reached the age of 21, Micah had already appeared in 100 Premier League games for Manchester City and represented the full England team 11 times, mostly at right-back.
He made 13 City appearances in 2005-06 when he was 17 and built that up to 34 in 2008-09, scoring the goal that beat Sunderland at home.
He had featured in three Under-21 internationals before making a remarkably composed senior debut in a friendly against Holland in Amsterdam in November 2006, becoming England’s youngest ever defender at 18 years 144 days.
His initial Under-21 appearance came in a UEFA Championship qualifier against Moldova at Ipswich on 15 August 2006. Micah captained the side on four occasions in the first half of 2009-10.
