Joe Hart, England

Joe Hart

Current club: Manchester City

Joe, a 6’3” goalkeeper, was born in Shrewsbury and began his professional career with local League club Shrewsbury Town, then in League Two.

He appeared in all 46 matches in the 2005-06 season, Town finishing tenth, and impressed Premier League Manchester City enough for them to sign him for the following season.

Still only 19, he featured in just one Premier League match and had spells on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool. He became more of a regular in the next two seasons, with 26 and 23 appearances respectively, before spending the whole of 2009-10 on loan at Birmingham City, where he blossomed into one of the country’s top ‘keepers.

Joe made his debut for England’s Under-21s as a substitute for Scott Carson in a 2-2 friendly draw against Spain in February 2007, going on to collect 21 caps at that level and start three matches in the Euro 2009 tournament in Sweden.

Fabio Capello handed him his first senior cap as a substitute for David James in Trinidad & Tobago in June 2008.

  • Watched the man play at the Blues last season and my word he is simply amazing. When watching videos on the internet of Birmingham City highlights of last season, it still astounds me as to how he made some of the saves. They look impossible to stop but he some how manages itBy TyFe (10 months ago)
  • Englands No.1, you better Believe it! - As a Birmingham City fan I have had the privilage of watching joe Hart through our 2009-10 season, one that has proven our best for near 40 years. though this achievement has been thanks to the whole squad, one man has stood literaly head and shoulders above his team mates.Mr. consistency, a description not usually tagged to a player so young has won the respect and votes for goalkeeper of the season from his peers. When I say Joe Hart has been the best Birmingham goalkeeper I have ever seen, synics may say "Well its only Birmingham City, not much of a compliment there", and on the evidence of the clubs honours who could blame them, but if nothing else over my 40years as a blue nose I rate Joe hart better than the following Blues No.1's I have had the priverlidge to watch. Tony Cotton,Jim Montgomery,David Seaman,Paul cooper,Steve Sutton,Jeff Wheelands. Sadly Past England captain & also Goalkeeping Great Gil merrick was lost to us this very year another Birmingham keeper, but I am sure he would have appreciated some of the at times dazzling displays by the on loan keeper, It would be a fitting tribute to Gil if Joe could also go on and represent England in the up coming world cup and for many years to come. A Manchester City player that I will support as if he were our own, Thanks Joe.By iain (12 months ago)
