The National 9/11 Memorial and Museum has unveiled a new interactive timeline of the Ground Zero attacks that is as informative and important as it is painful to view.
The new feature -- which appropriately comes with a warning that some of the images may be disturbingly graphic -- features never-before-released information from the Museum archives.
Says the Museum in a statement issued today:
"The timeline tells the story of the day as it unfolded, minute by minute, in the air and on the ground, using first-person accounts from survivors, first responders, and witnesses. Here are some examples:
* Listen to the dispatch of flight attendant Betty Ong as she alerts ground personnel to the hijacking of Flight 11.
* Hear Bruno Dellinger, a Quint Amasis employee, recall rushing to safety down 47 floors in the North Tower.
* See security footage, donated by the Federal Reserve Bank located three blocks from the World Trade Center site, which captures pedestrians fleeing to escape a cloud of dust."
Importantly, citizens can make their own contributions to the timeline via the site's "Make History" feature.
