Eve Online "I Was There" Trailer Based Off True Story
- 7 Comments
I'm sure there will be at least a few hardcore Eve Online players that will geek out one day by telling their grandkids stories about epic virtual space battles. Hopefully they'll make those stories a little more glorified, as CCP attempts to do in the latest Eve Online trailer. I was there man, really!

Full Bioshock Infinite E3 Demo Trailer Exclusive To Gametrailers.TV
- 18 Comments
Well, now we know why 2K was so tight about showing the entire E3 demo for Bioshock Infinite. Gametrailers somehow (see: lots of monies) secured exclusive rights to the sucker for use on Spike TV and of course the official GT.TV website. The good news is their player supports embeds, the bad news is it's pretty clunky and filled with ad breaks.

While searching for a Youtube mirror I also located what appears to be a more in-depth interview with Ken Levine from the same GT.TV episode.

In Other News.. Jube Gets A Break!
Awww yeahhhh! I'm back and badder than ever, cold as ice, and popping fresh. I've been passing out hard on the couch this week, only to wake up uncomfortable and all dazed and confused. Either my girlfriend has begun drugging me, or my birthday last week triggered some sort of drastic body clock shift. Luckily Jube had the morning update covered on Wednesday.

There's not a whole lot new on the games front aside from what's already out. One of us will probably be checking out From Dust soon, and supposedly a reviewable build of a certain cyberpunk classic isn't too far off. I should have a review up of Eagle Dynamic's DCS: A-10C Warthog before then though to coincide with an upcoming box copy launch (finally!), so keep an eye out for that if you've been on the fence. The Warthog review should also include some impressions of the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog joystick and throttle solution, a bundle that was pretty much made for the sim.

Speaking of reviews, do you guys like our long format reviews spread over multiple pages, or little one page quickies? It'd be cool to streamline things so we can hammer things out faster between the news, but at the same time we want to make sure we give you guys as much information about the products we review as possible.

As always, have a great weekend everyone!

Square-Enix Goes After Deus Ex Preview Build Leakers
- 5 Comments
Adam Jensen must have been busy, so the legal team at Square-Enix chose to be more peaceful by filing suit against fifteen "John Does" from the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Washington state. The defendants, which are supposedly based out of Italy, are accused of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act by unlawfully accessing information on a "protected computer" which is used in interstate and/or foreign commerce.

Despite the lack of any actual defendant names at the moment the lawsuit does reveal a few interesting facts about how the Deus Ex: Human Revolution press preview build made its way around the world just last month. From Patent Arcade:

One of the video game reviewers authorized to view the game preview was an Italian video game review magazine, GMC. Unknown individuals logged into the restricted internet portal to view the game preview using GMC’s access information. According to the complaint this was done without the permission or knowledge of the GMC reviewer, and came from an IP address not associated with GMC. The unknown defendants then proceeded to copy the game preview, and distribute it to other unknown third-party defendants using peer to peer file sharing.
Joystiq has scans of the lawsuit paperwork if you want to read up on all the legal mumbo jumbo. Patent Arcade also further highlights that Square-Enix is seeking restitution for damages in excess of $5000, a permanent injunction on copying and republishing by the defendants, actual and statutory damages, and attorney's fees and costs.

There's also a new (although completely silent) clip of Red Orchestra 2's new Firefight gameplay mode which Gamecorner.pl was kind enough to share.

After you're done with all that head on over to Eurogamer and Strategy Informer for a couple quickie previews.

G4TV Changes Mind, Will Air Ryan Dunn's Proving Ground Episodes
- 4 Comments
It turns out that Jackass star Ryan Dunn will be sharing a little more love with his fans after all, as G4TV has done away with its decision to pull all remaining Proving Ground episodes. The series had only just begun to air on G4TV prior to Dunn's passing, but was yanked before the second of nine scheduled episodes could air.

A special episode of Attack of the Show is now scheduled to kick off on July 19th, and will feature Dunn's closest friends and colleagues. Immediately after the special Attack of the Show episode wraps up Proving Ground will experience its revival, beginning with the second episode in the line-up.

"Ryan was an incredible talent who will be missed tremendously by his many fans, including G4 viewers," President Neal Tiles said.

"It was important to all of us at G4 to find a way to celebrate his life and pay tribute to him. With the support of Ryan's family, we've decided to air the remaining episodes of 'G4's Proving Ground' and give his fans the opportunity to continue watching this series that he was so passionate about."

Gamers Finally Found Something About Battlefield 3 To Hate On
- 22 Comments
GameStar.de unintentionally kicked off the first spat of drama tied to EA's upcoming Battlefield 3 all thanks to an interview they conducted with EA and DICE Senior Vice President Patrick Söderlund. The spark that ignited a little bit of community rage was Söderlund's statement that mod tools would not be given to the PC community because the Frostbite engine is too complex. In Söderlund's own words, it'd be "too big of a challenge" for modders.

Bethesda Crew Answers Skyrim Related Community Questions
- 10 Comments
A handful of Bethesda's finest took part in a Skyrim fan interview this week. If you head over to this thread at the official forums you'll see the questions and responses from Game Director Todd Howard, Lead Designer Bruce Nesmith, and Lead Artist Matt Carofano. Here's a little snip for the virtual-lover lovers out there:

Will we be able to have relationships with the NPCs, romantic or otherwise?

Bruce: Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your spouse will move in with you.

Race also matters when it comes to profession, but gender doesn't.

To what extent will our racial / gender selection at the start of the game will affecting our gameplay? Are there relationships affected by these choices?

Bruce: Your race is very important. It’s more than just how you look. Each race has a bias toward certain types of characters. If you want play a wizard, it will be easier with a High Elf or a Breton. If you want to play a warrior, it will be easier with a Nord or a Redguard. However, just like in Oblivion, we don’t force you to follow that bias. If you want to be a Nord wizard, that’s completely viable.

Gender does not change any initial skills or abilities. There is nothing that men do better than women or vice versa in the game. Other characters will recognize your gender and address you properly. Some may have prejudices for or against a particular gender as a part of their character, but it won’t change what you can or can’t do.

EVE Online Heads To Japan
CCP and Nexon have announced a partnership to bring a fully localized EVE Online to Japan this Fall. I guess you really can teach an old dog new tricks.

Continuing with CCP’s international growth plans, the company has targeted one of the largest online games markets to expand the EVE property. “Japanese players have always been an essential part of the EVE Online community,” said CCP CEO, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson. “Having considered Nexon’s excellent reputation as Asia’s leading game developer and publisher, they were the obvious choice in who the best possible partner would be to help us make the game more accessible to our growing fan base in Japan.” With the release of EVE Online on PC later this year, and CCP’s upcoming persistent shooter, DUST 514 on PlayStation 3 the following year, Japanese players will have localized access to the complete EVE universe ecosystem.

Localized services for Japanese players will enable them to access the game in their native language through the Tranquility server, which currently plays host to over 350,000 subscribers from around the world in three languages: English, German and Russian.

“We are pleased to have this opportunity to be a part of CCP’s ongoing plans to provide premium services to their subscribers,” said Seung-Woo Choi, Nexon Co., Ltd. “Our shared commitment to quality and excellence is the ultimate cornerstone from which to build an even greater gaming experience for Japanese video game enthusiasts.”

While CCP will continue to develop and manage the game, EVE Online will be added to the ever-expanding portfolio of titles available through Nexon’s portal site, utilizing Nexon’s billing system and supported by the company’s expertise in the areas of regional marketing and promotion.
