Another PC title ruined by adapting (stripping) it for consoles. GG! Way to ruin a good series.

LOVED the 1st Dungoen Siege for PC. If you take any game that was great on PC strip away the innovation and complexities, dumb down the graphics and reduce the control abilities to suit a console controller this is what you get. Why not design a game for console and a game for PC seperately? Because its not as profitable to dedicate shelf space to V8 Juice when Pepsi is higher profit. So what happens? Our schools and stores and PC's are stocked with the lowest quality ingredients to maximize the profits for the corporations that have managed to gain total control of all avenues of a product. Development, marketing, sales and distribution.

How many years have gone by since the 360? We should be playing insanely cool games with sick graphics and total community integration. But thats not as profitable.

Dont do these corporations any favors, because they sure arent doing any for you.

Hmmm...I think I will pass on this one. Bad camera angles can really be a deal-breaker sometimes which milks away all the fun.

@tommynj -- I did every side quest I encountered. Final game time was just over 12 hours.

Played the demo, it was awfull. Really awfull, can't believe obsidian did this game.

    Posted Jun 23, 2011 2:14 pm PT

The camera is bad enough in singleplayer, the way it works in co-op is plain asinine. You can't even bring in your own character so you can keep some loot? I'm at a loss for words... we're talking about basic features that have been around for ages. On the bright side, I've read Torchlight 2 is due out this year...

Oh another dumbed down game.. I'm getting used to this. If only they allowed multiplatform it would give me a reason to buy it and play with my brother in his ps3. But no, that would be too much to ask. So I'm passing this one.

ownestly i dont like the wacko camera and the inventory call me old fashioned but in hack and slash games i prefer the doll type of inventory

    Character evolution is less flexible.
Controls are somehow even less versitile.
    Less game content.
    Few dialog options per character.
And a more arcade like experience.

They dumbed down things, some might argue for the console.

I hope the money they make off the console sales makes up for the few copies they will sell on PC.

They should have just skipped the PC release, since none of the features are really used except increased resolution.

    PC != console

Kevin Van Ork gave Duke Nukem Forever a 3.5, but this tripe a 6 ( and a 6.5 on the Xbox 360 version, which is even inferior to this lackluster version ). lol

What did this game do to further advance the originals? Where's this game's great graphics? Where does DS3 bring something new to the table that it's predecessors didn't? What does DS3 do to advance its genre? Nothing. Exactly. Everything you slighted Duke Nukem Forever for in justification of your "review" score you have somehow failed to apply to this game's score. You are a joke, Van Ork.

PC version is horrible, I have to tab targets and cant click on them? and fixed camera for combat? are you effing kidding me? this is a major step back in DS..too bad I liked this series till this game. 1/10.

    @tommynj
Well, I finish it doing all side quests and spend about 11 hours of gameplay, and it was on hardcore difficulty.
On my second run with other characters I've spend less than 10 to finish it again doing all side quests.
The game is too short and have no replayability... that's the wrost aspect. Combat and characters are very good.

  • tommynj

    Posted Jun 22, 2011 10:59 am PT

It is a good story driven singleplayer experience. I have 10 hours played so far and not even close to being done. Apparently poeople who reviewed it only did the stoyline and not side quests.

  • jollybest1

    Posted Jun 22, 2011 10:29 am PT

it is a port to pc so for all rpg hardcore fans (pc rpg players) waste of time....i do enjoy it but i did left the ds title behind because this is fun only if you get pass the first hours and you get a few good players to play with, but it isn't a good rpg for me is just fun to relax...to sum it up they killed ds series but if you want to relax but afther 2 or 3 hours to get used to the stupid camera and controls maybe it is better to leave it aside ... a fun game if you forget ds and if you are like me and take it like a console port

How long will Obsidian be allowed to rape the sequels of beloved franchises?

  • pathock3

    Posted Jun 22, 2011 8:55 am PT

come on, kevin. why is this review so shallow? after watching a 6 minute review, I still don't know anything about the game. all you managed to talk about in that time is the story, controls, and platform differences. in the couple minutes you spent talking about the story, all you say is that choices don't inherently make a game/story engaging- and in this case, it doesn't work. but why?! can't you at least try to explain it? and if the story is a big part of the game, why do I leave the review literally knowing nothing about it besides one villain's name? some of us are old enough to appreciate a little depth in a review, so I hope next time you don't dumb it down to the least common denominator. you barely talked about the visuals, combat, and story, and didn't even mention the sound/music. when the most prominent video game critics do reviews like this, where you only try to tell people if they should buy the game, it promotes the stereotype that gaming is incapable of being more than a pastime. someone in your position ought to be reviewing games critically like films. take advantage of the platform you've been blessed with and help advance the form of media you love and represent.

If you actually read my post you'd see that i blame companies but anyway, blaming games=blaming companies because games are not made by themselves. Companies usually have a clear vision from the start and go for pc ports, but if they loose faith as you say, it's bad again for us customers. It's good though that pc gamers have great variety of titles, even from smaller companies.

I played the demo for this, and it didn't seem like anything special. I could never get into the original Dungeon Siege for the PC anyway.

  • KENNYKENNEDY

    Posted Jun 22, 2011 1:06 am PT

Its can be fun, but nothing special, obvious it was made solely for simplistic console play. Best game Obsidian have made, but that's not really saying much. Can't wait for a good RPG like Skyrim, Dark Souls or Diablo 3.

Not really sure what people are complaining about. The graphics are decent on the PC. Gameplay is standard hack and slash with a twist. It can get hectic as all get out at times. Character progression is different in a good way. Characters are likeable, and there is actually some sort of decent story.

  • y3ivan

    Posted Jun 21, 2011 7:58 pm PT

    @Bozanimal
I think u get me wrong, i did say this game need more time (i said half baked games) which i couldnt blame them. Any longer, diablo3 is going to steamroll them. Similiar case for C&C; series, Supcom2 which were 'killed' by starcraft2 (overrated game).

this is how the industry goes, BF3 vs MW3, Diablo3 vs DS3. SC2 vs ... console controls is a minor issue which can be patched but if the core gameplay is broken, its a lost cause.

    DS series
Well i played DS1 and DS2, both was a PC exclusive way back in time. I think was published by Mircosoft developed by gas power games (GPG), the same brains behind supcom (pc,x360). Those games were legends.

If u played it, you will know the series is pretty much lost its steam.

DS1 was more RTS/RPG and had 4 members in a squad, DS2 ended up like diablo, DS3 ended up the worst of the series.

I decided against buying this after playing the horrible demo. Reading about player experiences so far since release, I'm glad I changed my mind. This looks like a "wait for the $9.99 Steam sale" game, if even that.

you know for all of the demerits Gamespot is willing to just dish out to games. Why don't they take the time to look at their own freaking website? I cannot watch this video because the website crashes every four seconds. The website has not responded and has reloaded itself going on 25 times now, and all ive been trying to do for the passed ten minutes is rant. You all are soooo strict on reviewing games, and will be the first to point out a flaw, and yet you show the same lack of enthusiasm for your own creations. You can't talk the talk withoutwalkinging the walk. I give the Gamespot website a Shallow, busted technical, Loooong loading times, stripped, and terrible first impression.

As a player of the previous DS games I think I will pass on this one. And maybe its just the fact that The Witcher 2 looks sooo good, but this game really doesn't look that great to me.

mmm ok i played dungeon siege 1 and 2, ds 1 was way to repetitive, you dont have a good amount skills or good skills at all, dungeon siege surprised me a lot and its quite good, its the best of the franchise, now this new game is not a dungeon siege by any means, i think its fun at all but man you cant compare it with ds2, i dont know why the developers chose this route ....

  • Morbissus

Why so linear? It doesn't need to be open world but at least open levels. Any one else tired of unjumpable barrles & waist high walls?

    Posted Jun 21, 2011 3:37 pm PT

From the little I've played I must say that this game is really good. The only downside is the length, but it does have replay value. There aren't many memorable moments but the there are also no frustrating moments either. Its just a good fun game. Its no Dragon Age but it definitely shines brighter then Two Worlds 2 or Gothic 4.

  • Ripper_TV

Oh, OMG, freaking trashmakers. Oh, how I hate Obsidian, they can't make anything good? What hit and miss are you talking about? The only decent game they made was KOTOR 2 (according to the reviews, didn't play it). Freaking CLOSE Obsidian! How are they still making profit, one would wonder.
Ugh, awful. I'm furious. They'd run into the ground any good franchise for you.

  • ahpuck

Poor Dungeon Siege, it never stood a chance. Obsidian does not know how to make a great game and Square Enix forgot how to make great games years ago. I think I'll just go make me another farmer and go save the kingdom of Ehb in Dungeon Siege 1, again.

I was thinking about getting this game for my pc and try to relive some diablo 2 days with updated graphics since I didn't think my pc would have the processor power to run the new diablo3 when it arrived to the market but after this review I guess I won't get it after all inwhich is too bad since the game looked decent well all up to the point that I learned Obsidian was making it....
