Oh indeed, Bethesda, who paid GameSpot to air ads of Brink during its launch period and paying GameSpot to host launch centers for the Fallout 3 and New Vegas, is not "playing the media game".

You keep equating their promotional activities with impropriety, then.

That said, this is a comment thread for Duke Nukem Forever - not a vehicle to air your misgivings about GameSpot, or IGN.

you HONESLTY dont think big game companies do favors for these game companies.

I don't "think" that they do this because I don't have proof to think otherwise. Do you have proof other than what you believe is "evidence" of impropriety, e.g. reviews that you don't like and the huge number of exclusives that very rich publishers like Activision shell out not just for GameSpot?

    You wrote:
Gamespot even admitted that they were ANGRY at brink purblisher for not giving them their copy sooner than other reviewers.

And they shouldn't be angry? That said, where did you get the information that other reviewers got "their copy sooner". Is it this Reality Check article that Justin Calvert wrote? If it is, Justin didn't say anything about other review sites.

    You wrote:
just look at Bethsadea games. All of them over the last 5 years. they ALL get below average ratings from gamespot.

Oh indeed, they all got below average ratings. The Elder Scroll games scored "below average", and the Fallout remakes did too.

And do please don't bring Brink into a thread about Duke Nukem Forever. They aren't even similar games.

I have no idea who in the right mind would think it's a good idea to bring back a severely out-dated, immature, offensive and 1 dimensional character and his equally awful series to the 21st century. If anyone thought this game would be a major success, you are delusional.

but GS REALLY shows no mercy to this game.why Duke WE LOVED YOUR GAMES!

I was really looking forward to the crude humour of this game. Dukes one liners, movie quotes, digs at other games etc. But none of it feels right or Duke-like. Most of the one liners are ruined because he doesn`t say them right, or the ones he gets right are just repeated from previous games. So much wrong with this game it just kills the atmosphere.
Man i wish there was something to like about this game, i really do. Loved the original games and even some of the spin-offs.

Eff it im gonna go cry myself to sleep now

Randy Pitchfork.... used to be a name that meant something in the business....
I don`t think anyone expected DNF to be amazing given the development hell this game has been through, but to hype it like it will be the next big thing in shooters, and a re-imagining of the Duke brand.... b*tch please!
You (Randy) and the other numbnuts working on this game must`ve known this would be a pile of sh*t. But instead of being honest and treating us like we have half a brain, you hyped and lied, then sat back and waited for the money to come rolling in from the Duke name alone. Disgusting behaviour in my opinion.
I for one will avoid anything with your name on it in the future. You guys destroyed Duke as we know him, and in my eyes destroyed your reputations aswell. I only hope you don`t try again with Duke or some other classic IP.
And to all you saying this is not a fair review - you need your heads tested! Every review site and real gamer hates this for what it is - a slap in the face to gamers and fans of the franchise.
I played this steaming turd for 20 minutes, removed the disk, snapped it in half, threw it in the bin, AND spat on it.
And don`t get me started on the remarks Duke makes towards other games, like he`s still their superior.......... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mofo i will kick YOUR arse and chew bubblegum.

Sorry for the rant i just had to get that off my chest *sigh of relief* that`s better.

@THUGDRAFT isnt quite how I meant that to sound I guess, what I mean is yeah I agree that to some people a game thats not enjoyable is enjoyable to them but there are times when a game just stinks of lazy development which is bad no matter how you look at it and I beleive duke nukem forever is one of those cases

    @Lov3IsPAiN

Dead serious. I've played every BioWare game since they started. I had to force myself to finish DA2...and cannot bring myself to replay it. DA2 is not a "great game"...calling it "mediocre" is being generous. That company is supposed to spit out gems on a steady basis but DA2 was spit out early, without TLC, and it shows. It was an insult to console players and PC Gamers alike. I think a lot of younger gamers are being denied the chance to play somthing like Baldur's Gate II is skewing their expectations towards a lesser product.

Now Duke...well it had nowhere to go but down. All those years in the Dev cycle weren't spent making "the ultimate game"...they seem to have been spent in a quandry of "uh oh...we may have not made a good game...let's rethink things". "The bastard child of a thousand developers" fits the mold in a perfect sumation. Too much time in the oven can be as detrimental as not enough time...especially when the vision keeps changing.

In software development when you change your base requirements of the end product late in the game it can murder your end product and cost far more than even a successful product might glean.

I have no glee in panning either product...but I know a good game when I see one...neither is a good game...but I expected Duke to be bad. DA2...not so much. Both were bad but for two very opposite reasons.

Do please do that then. Good luck having the user reviewing sites keep telling you what you want to hear though - especially when these sites host reviews for games that you seem to like but seemingly everybody else disliked. I doubt that you are not going to call these user reviewing site "crappy" too.

I would say that the two of you - you and your step-son - have yet to learn that GameSpot - and IGN - aren't there to tell the fans what they want to hear. They tell what THEY want to tell - and you are faulting them for this? Call them "run by cash?"

    You wrote:
Half the reivews on metacritic say the game is crap, half say its fun.

I personally wouldn't consider Metacritic to be the final say on any game. Remember Portal 2 on Metacritic? That showed that Metacritic is WIDE open to spam-scoring by angry fans - the angry, angry words of fans, who believe that they are always right.

The irony is that Metacritic is even more dependent on viewership than GameSpot or IGN is, because it has mainly metascores to offer - metascores that are affected by fans, and which fans LIKE to see.

    @Brokenhope69
LMAO. Is that you George Broussard or are you a former employee of 3-D Realms? I'm being ignorant? Really? Prey 2 hasn't even been released and you're already calling it a success. John Romero left idsoftware, formed ion storm and then created one of the worst games in history which caused his company to go belly up, while he was out messing around with some fresh tart. Their Dallas offices were closed and many people found themselves to be unemployed. The failure was so epic that Gamespot did an extensive article which chronicles the failure and written by Gametrailer's host Geoff Keighly. Everyone should read it. It's sad and shows what not to do when developing a game. George Broussard and his team at 3-D Realms followed the exact same path. "Greatness of DNF?" LOL. Dude, that's funnier than the entire game including the first one.

I didn't really have high hopes for this game due to the amount of time it's been coming, but actually from what I can see the game doesn't look THAT bad. I haven't played it but I doubt it deserves a 3, probably a 5 at least.

I did have to turn the sound down though.. Not because of the game, but because of the guy reviewing it. Man his voice is aggravating.

I'm quite baffled by the general response by reviewers about DNF - sure it's not ground breaking, sure it's not the best game around - I do agree that there's a massive difference between the visual quality of the console versions when compared to the pc version - and for that the developers should prob get a slap on the wrist.

But the game as a whole plays just like all the previous DN games, and I've played em all, even games like Red Neck Rampage which wasn't a mile off from the DN style gaming.

This game has all the elements that make up a game, they might not be super serious, ground breaking or pushing the bar in any way - but this is a DN game - it's rude, crude and has sully humour - anybody that expected anything else are just plain stupid. This game gave what Duke gave us back in the day - and if you play it with that same silly mind set that the original Duke games had then this game is nothing more than an expansion of the Duke universe.

All these "worst game ever" and "I'll never get the time back" us all crap - the game plays, it works, there's boss fights - and the whole game is all about what old school fps's where like. It's a great nod of the head to the classic DN games, and it's fun.

It was a mistake for somebody gay to review this game as the entire joke system is based around sexism and over the top male stereo types. I'm not saying this reviewer is bad I find him an expert game reviewer and he made some valid points. But you must realise most straight men will laugh at this game and wont necessarily call it boring. You seem to form a strong bias for this game and that made you exaggerate how bad this is. Considering some of the 8+ ratings you have given boring as hell other games you did this game a disservice.

    According to Metacritic:

Based on 26 critics score is 58/100

Based on 400+ gamers the score was 61/100

Just means that it should be totally playable and theres not that many who believes it's totally crap. I'm gonna buy it and play it eventhough it's not ás good as like MW2 (well yeah, different games but blabla).
Btw, i thought those jokes were funny!

People, just because someone writes a review on a game that gives out a score or comments you do not agree with it does not mean that person is bad at their job. I dont agree with every game review here mostly becuase i have my own mind. I still dont think the people writing the review or the site they are working on is bad because of it. Also i suspect that most of you are hating on the review without having played the game at all. Even the short demo released before it finally came out showed off a multitude of flaws that should have been blatent from the off. If your not going to agree thats fine, just dont spend time you could be doing something good complaining about a reviewer personally, it's rude for no reason and its silly. If your going to use a different site for this stuff just do that, its not like your so important that it has to be announced to the world.
