Three people were injured on Thursday when a car hit a Metro light rail train at Elgin and Main, triggering a multi-vehicle collision, officials at the transit agency said.
The driver of a car ran a red light at Elgin, collided with the train, lost a tire and collided with two other vehicles, Metro Transit Authority spokeswoman Carolina Mendoza said. The third vehicle struck a fourth car, she said.
Three people were injured in the 2:40 p.m. accident – two from the vehicles and a passenger aboard the train. Two were taken to St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the third person declined medical attention at the scene.
The train was taken out of service after the accident.
