Spotty showers are possible today in the Houston region, but the area is likely to dry out and heat up this weekend as high pressure builds above the area.

The downpours that drenched much of the region Wednesday have mostly moved away from the area, though scattered rain may linger, especially along the coast, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said the heat index could climb into the triple digits.

Today, a 20 percent chance of showers is possible. The high will be near 95 degrees under partly sunny skies. The low will be about 76. The heat index—how hot the air feels when humidity and temperature combine—could be as high as 103.

About a 20 percent chance of showers is possible Friday. The high will be in the mid 90s under partly sunny skies. The low will be about 77. The heat index will be about 102. Breezy south winds will between 5 mph and 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

The area dries out on the weekend, which will be mostly sunny and hot. The highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the upper 90s. The lows will be in the upper 70s. No rain is forecast.
