The Three Lions hit their straps in 2010 qualifying.
With Fabio Capello at the helm, England set about qualification for South Africa 2010 in September 2008.
Starting as favourites in a group consisting of Andorra, Belarus, Croatia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, the Three Lions grew in confidence after their opening 2-0 victory over Andorra and conspired not to drop a point in their first eight fixtures – thus securing qualification with two games to spare.
During their ten matches, England scored
34 goals – the most of any team in Europe – and conceded just six.
The top scorer for Capello was Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney with nine goals, Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch both contributed with four, while Steven Gerrard, Jermain Defoe and Theo Walcott all added three to the tally.
Let's hope the goals keep coming in South Africa.
