Walking Dead Video Game Details Spring to Life
Jun 8, 2011 @ 7:14pm

Telltale Games is keeping details about The Walking Dead game at shotgun-length from curious fans, but the safety is slowly coming off.

So far Telltale has said the game will be an episodic release, using the premise of Robert Kirkman’s ongoing The Walking Dead graphic novel series and AMC’s subsequent TV show.

Both previous formats follow the story of Rick Grimes as he attempts to survive the zombie apocalypse with his family intact (literally), although the plotlines vary. At E3, Telltale Executive Producer Kevin Boyle confirmed its version of The Walking Dead will follow an entirely separate survivor, a criminal named Lee Everett, and his struggle to stay alive with 7-year-old Clementine. Clementine will serve as Lee’s moral compass, Telltale said.

The character shift isn’t an accident:

“There will be some overlap with characters fans are familiar with. Our general take, though, is creating a story with characters player’s aren’t familiar with,” Boyle said.

Lee and Clementine will run into Rick at the Atlanta border, along with original Walking Dead characters Lilly and Glenn, and plenty of undead along the way.

“The threat of this unrelenting force that just keeps coming and coming and coming until you’re dead… that needs to be there to feel like a Walking Dead game,” Boyle said. “The zombies are no small part of this.”

The game won’t be all zombie gore and hack-and-slash; Telltale wants to mess with your mind too.

“The heart of what we want to get to is presenting players with those struggles of what’s the right choice when presented with two equally awful decisions,” Boyle said.

Do you think Telltale’s character shift is a wise move, or should they have stuck with what fans know and love?
