    Dirk, LeBron battle for legacy

Rather than wait until after the fact, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize beforehand for everything offensive I plan to say, write and do during The Finals. Yes, silly head, David Stern is, too, staging...

  • Walsh set to complete deal with Knicks this week

John Calipari couldn't believe his awful luck when he stepped into an almost empty hotel elevator a week ago in Sarasota (site of the Dick Vitale Gala) and the door closed before he recognized its lone occupant....

  • Thunder's collapse led by bumbling coach

Last night’s crumble by the Thunder was worse than when Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. … ….Worse than when the Walls of Jericho tumbled… ….Worse than Cool Hand Luke’s failure to communicate. You’d think by now last...

    Don't be Bull-ish on Thibodeau's 'O'

Projectile dysfunc tion, according to word of mouth, can deflate and depress a team more than anything that ails it. Yes, it is up to the players to perform. Still, the coach and management must prescribe...

No surprise Kareem is waiting for his statue

It's not tricky to figure out why effervescent Magic Johnson and inspirational Chick Hearn were the first Lakers sculptured outside Staples Center. Creative oomph on the floor and in the booth, both were favorites of...

  • Mavericks coach preparing to deal with Thunder's stars

Dramatic life turns follow Nowitzki-for-Traylor trade

How perfectly surreal! On the same day a glowing article appeared on Dirk Nowitzki in the Dallas Morning News, there was an AP story alongside on Robert "Tractor" Traylor's overturned life. In the 1998 draft,...

Randolph is a key reason Grizz keep Thundering on

  • Celts, Lakers face age-old questions

Intriguing to note that Shaquille O'Neal, speaking to the Boston Globe, no less, Nov. 8, 2002, didn't quite follow guidelines he set for himself. He declared he would never do what an NBA center-fold was doing . . ....

Celtics' Rondo played Game 4, but Game 3 return dumb

    Defending chumps flounder vs. Mavericks

TV analysts shouldn't preempt game action
