Will video games soon dominate CES? Plus, has Valve fallen from grace?

Valve doesn't use motion capture for facial animation. What they have is far more sophisticated and physically accurate in its construction than anything else out there. To suggest that they are anything but industry leaders in this regard is ignorance. Do some research into the engines and you'll see that there really is no comparison...seriously there's a huge difference between recording motion and generating it. All the pre-rendered movies for L4D and TF2 use the same facial animation as the realtime game content, which is nothing if not top class.
LA Noire may have some spectacular motion capture methods, but they make a crucial mistake. They place a very high level of animation detail in a comparably rudimentary scene. It creates a stark contrast that breaks the continuity of a virtual world, making it less immerse overall. That is a classic mistake Valve has avoided because they are--or at least Gabe Newell is--smarter than the average developer. There's more to visual quality than quantity of detail.

portal was just a added bonus to the orange box, just a try at something new, and ppl loved it, so portal two is basically wat portal 1 would have been if it was taken seriously and made as a new game ip. Valve is godly, they themselve dont release much, but when they do, the quality is spot on. and they give us great deals on other gmes through steam. So give it up kids
