About RSS Feeds

What is RSS?

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

Benefits and Reasons for RSS

RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News.

How do I get RSS feeds?

There are many different ways of viewing and managing RSS feeds. Newer versions of some web browsers–such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Apple's Safari have simple RSS readers built into them. Alternatively, you can download and install a standalone RSS reader or sign up to a web-based service. Google has a list of RSS readers–both standalone and web-based–for Windows, Mac and other operating systems. Once you've picked an RSS reader, you'll need to choose some RSS feeds. Look out for the RSS icons RSS and RSS, which indicate the presence of an RSS feed.
