Memorial Day 2011

Originally known as “Decoration Day,” Memorial Day came into existence just three years after the Civil War ended. Decoration Day was intended as a time to remember the soldiers who lost their lives during the Civil War and more specifically, to honor their memory by decorating their graves.

Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2011

U.S. Southern Command - CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the Armed Forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Approximately 1,800 U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel are participating in CARAT Thailand 2011.

Continuing Promise 2011

Continuing Promise 2011 - A Commitment to the Caribbean, Central and South America

The hospital ship USNS Comfort is bringing medical, dental and civic action programs to nine Caribbean, Central and South American nations during this five-month humanitarian and civic assistance deployment.

Continuing Promise offers training for U.S. military personnel and partner nation forces while providing valuable services to communities in need. This is the sixth humanitarian-focused naval deployment to the region since 2007 designed to promote partnerships and goodwill.
