LIVERMORE -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating a car crash just before noon on Sunday that sent the female driver to the hospital after her car went down an embankment near Livermore.

The name, age and residence of the driver, were still being investigated, said CHP officer Steve Creel.

At 11:30 a.m., witnesses reported that an older model silver Mustang veered across all lanes of northbound Intestate 580 before plunging down 500-foot embankment just north of the North Flynn Road exit, said Creel.

The woman was flown by helicopter to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. Her condition was not available.
