• Summary: The second installment in the RPG saga about the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, features a thoroughly engrossing, mature storyline defining new standards for thought-provoking, non-linear game narration. In addition to an epic story, the game features an original, brutal combat system that uniquely combines tactical elements with dynamic action. A new, modern game engine, responsible for beautiful visuals and sophisticated game mechanics puts players in the most lively and believable world ever created in an RPG game. A captivating story, dynamic combat system, beautiful graphics, and everything else that made the original Witcher such a great game are now executed in a much more advanced and sophisticated way. CD Projekt has with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings ruined all other games in the genre. With graphics from the future and gameplay from space, they have made this century's best RPG. BioWare has been ousted from the throne and will have to work very hard to reclaim it once again.

Such a f..king treat. Rarely does a series so lavishly reward its fans for participating in a game's fiction as the Witcher series aims to do, but the fruits of CDProjekt RED's labor are readily apparent in Assassins of Kings, and a total joy to experience.

As a world-building exercise, The Witcher 2 succeeds masterfully but there are deep flaws in its game design.

  1. It isn't a game without flaws. It looks like relased too early, it is short, also the controls are like on conversion from a console (you can't pick up anything using mouse cursor...). But all those flaws are countered by the story that makes you go deep into the world and relases only once you have finished the game... Also other positive things: free DLC, (compare it to all those todays games that make you paying twice the original price for DLC) no annoying copy protection... and so I can continue ;) Expand

Average at best - has some significant issues, mainly combat is terrible as the fights itself are too hack&slashy.; Also lack of any open world disqualifies this game as an rpg. It is an action game with light rpg-like topping on it. Something like Assassin Creed. Story is good, I liked scripting and graphic, but the combat and poor inventory management spoiled a lot of fun for me. This is the same thing that Bioware tried to pull off with DA II, just better executed, but it is still light years away from great classics like Baldur Gates/Wizardy/Might and Magic/Elder Scroll series Expand

If the Witcher 2 was interactive movie, it would be be great. Good story, believable characters, and graphics that beat Crysis 2 into a pulp. Sadly developers felt like doing a game, so on top of this movie they piled up some combat and character development elements. Notice the word 'some' and 'elements', as opposed to a 'real combat system'. But if you have no problems with hitting multiple key combinations like 'Escape', 'Escape', 'C', 'ENTER', and finally Mouse Left Click - just to get from "Drink Potion" screen to "Abilities" screen, spending 6-10 seconds, depending on your abilities and that of your PC, for an action that requires 1 key press on 15 year old RPG like BG, then you are member of this new breed of PC gamers, who a willing to put up with just about anything, and this game could be for you. For most of hardcore RPG players just having no real inventory or a character sheet will be enough to stay away from this game. Add to that no character creation and dumbed down level-up system, simpleton's action combat, with utterly non-responsive and sometimes simply not working keys, and the most horrid UI (console ports included) with clunkiest controls ever - featuring overloaded Left Mouse Click and _Where_is_this_thing_I_just_looted inventory system, and it should be enough for everyone to realize that this is a no-fun to play, rushed console action RPG, disguised via superb graphics into a PC RPG.
