News Feeds

ComingSoon.net provides feeds in two different ways. The first method is very simple using javascript, but it doesn't provide much functionality. The second method uses RSS and provides you with a lot of ways to format the feeds. Both will be discussed in enough detail that will allow most people to be able to get the scripts up and running in a matter of minutes.

Javascript Syndication

Using a simple addition of javascript to your site, you can pull a headlines feed from ComingSoon.net. Because of its limitations, the javascript does not give you much customization to your site. 'FILENAME' in the script refers to what's after the 'news/' in each of the four links provided. For example, if you want to use the 'Movie News Category' with 10 of the most recent stories, you would insert 'http://comingsoon.net/news/js-movie-10.php' into the script after the src=".

You can put <font> before and </font> after the script to assign the text a font, size and color.

Use the following code:

<script language="JavaScript" src="http://comingsoon.net/news/FILENAME.php" type="text/javascript"></script>

RSS Syndication
The second and much more powerful way to syndicate our news is using RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. RSS is an XML-based format for distributing and aggregating Web content (such as news headlines). Using a script on your website you can pull our feeds, configure it how you want, and display it how you want.

There are multiple files that you can call which give you different content depending on the categories. Here is a list:

How Can I Use RSS?
Typical applications for consuming or using RSS include:

- Using a program known as a News Aggregator to collect, update and display RSS feeds
- Incorporating RSS feeds into weblogs

News Aggregators (also called news readers) will download and display RSS feeds for you. A number of free and commercial News Aggregators are available for download. Popular news readers include AmphetaDesk, NetNewsWire, and Radio Userland.

Many aggregators are separate, "stand-alone" programs such as those listed above; other services will let you add RSS feeds to a Web page.

Another way many people use RSS feeds is by incorporating content into weblogs, or "blogs". Blogs are web pages comprised of usually short, frequently updated items and web links. Blogging as a publishing tool is used for many purposes: traditional journalism, personal journals, group discussions around a topic, and many combinations in-between.
