X-Men: First Class Makes $3.4 Million at Midnight

June 3, 2011

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, which 20th Century Fox opens today, has grossed an estimated $3.4 million from its midnight screenings last night, compared to the $3.3 million grossed by Marvel Studios' Thor in midnights last month. Thor went on to gross $65.7 million in its opening weekend, although one would generally expect that the X-Men prequel would do bigger business at midnight being a prequel to a popular franchise and with all the buzz it's received. On the other hand, the X-Men prequel is likely to have more of a female audience who wouldn't necessarily rush out to see it at midnight so it probably will even out and doing in the same general ballpark.

Check back on Sunday for the full weekend box office report.

X-Men First Class is, in my opinion significantly better than Thor. Have to take a few things into consideration. One, the hype: Thor got 10 times more hype than X Men. Two, the cast: Thor has more “proven” talent than X Men and, while the X Men acting was not the best, the casting alone for Thor did not carry it to astronomical proportions. Three, the intro stories. Considering these movies are both supposed to be origin stories, X Men did a better job developing multiple characters. Fourth, last and more important, the EYE CANDY. Whether special effects or actor/actresses, X Men has significantly more eye candy than Thor.

After 4 tries 20th Century Fox finally knocks it out of the ballpark. This is the best X-Men film ever made. X-Men 2 was good but, let's face it, it was the Wolverine show in all of the previous films. This is the first truly X-Men film. I cannot say enough good things about this movie, the perfectly selected actors were incredible and the movie is pure entertainment from start to finish. I am completely satisfied with this movie and hope they do multiple sequels to this. Great script, great effects. I would love to see a Magneto or Brotherhood of Mutants spin-off as long as Michael Fassbender keeps playing Magneto. 100 times better then Thor. Matthew Vaughn, you are the man.
