"We will clearly bring charges against the player. You need to rid the European football pitches of this kind of player," said Jean-Claude Dassier, Marseille's president.

A lot has happened in Ferdinand's absence, not much of it good, but Capello has decided to bring an end to Steven Gerrard's temporary spell as team leader at a time when England appear to be on the road to recovery.

    • Juliet Walton so it is ok to break someones jaw in a fight but to apparentely to have an affair with a former team mates ex girlfriend is not? Rio, I got banned for 9 months is hardly an example either. Why not super frank as at least he has not been in trouble lately? All pathetic anyway as John Terry was the best person for the job!

    • Stuart Neal well i personally say never pick him again as he's just a cheating scumbag and will cheat till his hearts content in a club shirt to the point of he would die for the cause for that red lot but would never do it for his country !

It's been a great start to the Premier League campaign for some, but not so good for others. For every Ian Holloway, there's a Roy Hodgson, for every Carlo Ancelotti, there's an Arsene Wenger. And don't even get us started on the toilet pipe fitters at Sunderland's Stad...ium of Light. FanHouse UK take...

    • Dalitso Zulu How is Arsène Wenger the 2nd biggest loser?? Dont u consider the fact that Arsenal have 5 starters out injured?? Besides no one expects us to win the title so we havnt really lost anything..What about David Moyes at Everton?? Even Man Utd cant win an away game so they should be considered 'losers'

    • Rick Baiman I'm a DIEHARD Red Sox fan and the man, and his partners, have infused life and $$$$ into the franchise...not at the level of an Abramovich or The Sheik-but then again these guys treat their assets as monopoly money-but to the point where there has been tremendous VALUE-ADDED! I don't think you'll hear a bad word about the his group, least of all John Henry. He has class, style and he gets things done..Liverpool will be a proud franchise once again...just like the Red Sox!

Fabio Capello has made it clear he will leave his post as manager when the current European Championship campaign ends. Steve McClaren's name has been mentioned, after success at Dutch club FC Twente before his move to German side Wolfsburg.

Like many half-expected momentous days it has still come as a shock that the ill-fated Tom Hicks and George Gillett era at Anfield looks to be over, with a sale to John William Henry II's New England Sports Ventures.

Now the latest incident involving de Jong has left Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa with a broken leg and resulted in the midfielder being dropped by Holland coach Bert van Marwijk.

    • Rick Baiman Suspensions and fines don't seem to do the trick....van Marwijk is definitely sending the right message..but de Jong is way too reckless in how he plays the game...hard tackling is one thing, "gross negligence" is another!

The England man has started just three of City's Premier League games this season, with Mancini preferring Silva in recent weeks. It is a baffling policy with City crying out for a bit of pace and ingenuity to liven up their midfield.

    • FanHouse UK ‎@DalitsoZulu - We hope you're not referring to FanHouse? We'd never discriminate :) If you're referring to the Premiership I believe it has more foreign players than any other major footballing nation. Please explain yourself further?
      October 5 at 8:14am ·
    • Dalitso Zulu Man City have a big squad so Mancini should pick a team he feels can win him the game. If he feels Johnson is better coming off the bench then so be it. He shouldn't be starting every game just because he's English

Liverpool have not so much fallen off a horse in recent weeks as been trampled, battered and bruised after being galloped over, firstly by Northampton Town in the Carling Cup and then Blackpool in the Premier League.
