Disgaea 4 Details

We return to the Netherworld, but instead of demons and overlords, we have werewolves and vampires.

NIS America announced its 2011 lineup at an event in San Francisco, so it looks like we're in for another epic Japanese strategy role-playing game that will last hundreds of hours. While it stays true to the Disgaea formula, the visuals are a step up from the sprites that we're so used to seeing. Each character is wonderfully detailed on the grid, so it's like moving around little anime figurines. It's colorful, it's quirky, and there are prinnies; what more do you need? We had an opportunity to sit down with the lead programmer and director of the game, Masahiro Yamamoto, to talk about the new features in Disgaea 4. See the interview below for more information. But if you want to see the game in action with the new visuals (and hilarious narration), I'd highly suggest the trailer, which is also embedded below.

Find out the details to Disgaea 4.

Disgaea 4 is set to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 this September.

    This looks like a step-up from Disgaea 3. I'll be looking forward to it.

    @Jinroh_basic

    Overall ofc there isnt much graphical upgrade... the upgrade itself is using HD sprites on the characters which makes it nicer unfortunately the quality for the video on the article doesnt reflect the sprites as they are, check a video @ 1080p quality of the game then you will see a bit of improvement from Disgaea 3 (having said that they could have done more... but still gg disgaea )

    not saying the author lied, but if you check out actual footages you will notice there's barely any graphical upgrade; gameplay doesn't look very different either. in all likelihood the game is going to be quite similar to the 3rd. by the way, the game wasn't too well received in Japan.

    Never played any of the Disgaea games before but from the look of that trailer, NIS really did seem to put a lot of effort to make this game as manly as possible. This game might be a good chance for me to try this series out. "100 million+ damage? No problem!" XD

    @Jehuty08
    It's crazy that you mention the whole Little Big Netherworld thing because, I actually made a Little Big Planet level with that title, lol.

    Anyways this game looks awesome!

    Werewolves and Vampires might get old but I trust NIS to do something that has me laughing to tears with those characters. Actually I didn't like any main characters since the awesome duo of Laharl and Etna but I still hugely enjoy all of Disgaea games so far, played them on the PS2 and then the PSP updates + D3. It's all in the hilariousness + open gameplay/do what you want, how you want + deep and complex systems that layer on each other and make grinding actually fun and challenging ... sometimes.

    This makes me want to go back and dominate Hour of Darkness but at the same it doesn't because this game looks like it will be the ultimate disgaea. Better Graphics
    Improved gameplay
    Fusion Online Pirate Ships!!!

    What more could you want from a Disgaea adventure?
