“Sperminator” Schwarzenegger scorned over love child

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – To fans, he was movie star tough guy the Terminator. Then he turned to politics and was affectionately dubbed the Governator. But after acknowledging that he fathered a child out of wedlock, Arnold Schwarzenegger was swiftly given a new name — the Sperminator.

That headline and lede paragraph is distasteful, ugly, and unworthy of a respectable news organization. Sperminator? Ugh!

Just disgusting and shocking. Shame on you.

German court convicts then frees Nazi guard Demjanjuk

MUNICH (Reuters) – A German court convicted John Demjanjuk on Thursday for his role in the killing of 28,000 Jews in the Sobibor Nazi death camp, then set the 91-year-old free because of his age.

Holocaust survivors at first welcomed the Munich court’s verdict that Demjanjuk, who was exonerated in another war crimes case in Israel two decades ago, was an accessory to mass murder as a guard at Sobibor camp in Poland during World War Two.

Demjanjuk was initially sentenced to death two decades ago in Israel for being the notorious “Ivan the Terrible” camp guard at Treblinka in Poland. The guilty verdict was overturned on appeal by Israel’s supreme court in 1993 after new evidence emerged pointing to a case of mistaken identity.

Microsoft to buy Skype for pricey $8.5 bln

NEW YORK, May 10 (Reuters) – Microsoft Corp plans to buy Internet phone service Skype for $8.5 billion in its biggest-ever acquisition, placing a rich bet on mobile and the Internet to try to best rivals such as Google Inc.

On the homepage, the story headlined “Microsoft to buy Skype” seems to have a blaring typo:

“Microsoft plans to buy Internet phone service Skype for $8.5 billion in its biggest-ever acquisition, placing a rich bet on mobile and the Internet to try to best rivals such as Google. “

Crouching Nude, hidden date?

First auction of Bacon nude could fetch $15 million

Bacon’s 1961 oil on canvas “Crouching Nude” is one of his large-scale paintings and is feted for its ominous, brooding atmosphere in which the distorted female model grins grotesquely.

I was very disturbed by the apparent fact checking gap in your reporting of the sale of the Francis Bacon painting the crouching nude. The piece dates the work in 1961 and repeats that several times.

All the resources I can find date the work as 1952. I rely on your reporting to be accurate and well researched yet this looks like a case of internet quick reporting with little fact checking.

Pastor regrets posting baby pat-down photo on Twitter

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 11 (Reuters) – The Reverend Jacob Jester said on Wednesday he wishes he never would have posted a picture on Twitter of a baby being patted down by security agents at Kansas City International Airport.

Your reporter needs a lesson from his editor on the use of the past conditional tense.

He is paid way too much to make this kind of ignorant grammatical mistake. Whatever happened to “had”?

U.S. sanctions 3 firms owned by Libyan government

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States Thursday sought to increase pressure on the Libyan government by imposing financial sanctions on three companies owned by Muammar Gaddafi’s government.

London-based Dalia Advisory Ltd, Libya’s state broadcasting company and Lafico Algeria Holdings, an Algeria-based subsidiary of the Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Company, were added to the U.S. sanctions blacklist.

The sanctions prohibit U.S. transactions with the firms and seek to freeze any assets they may have under U.S. jurisdiction. Dalia is owned by the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), which was established in 2006 to manage the country’s oil revenues.

U.S. commandos knew bin Laden likely would die

Brennan said the commandos were prepared to capture Obama alive, but they knew that was a remote possibility.

It should say… to capture “Bin Laden” alive. That should be fixed.

St. Pierre turns hockey-mad Canada into MMA mecca

While such a statement borders on treason in hockey-mad Canada, White’s boast cannot not be simply dismissed with St. Pierre set to headline the biggest mixed martial arts event ever held in North America Saturday at a 55,000 seat Rogers Center that sold out in a matter of hours.

That should be “Rogers Centre” not “Rogers Center.” For a large Canada-based news organization, that type of mistake shouldn’t happen…
