Young Adults

God of all creation, as young adults, help us to embrace our true potential in this period of development, discernment, transitions, and creativity. Inspire our communities with your Spirit to open themselves to our leadership and insight, creating safe and challenging spaces for us to live into the full stature of Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Although they’re grouped together, young adults (18 and 30) are often at different life stages.  They’re married, partnered, single, with children, divorced, widowed.  They leave high school and enter the work force, the military or college.  Not every young adult attends college, and many will try it on but leave before completing a degree.

They engage with the world, and many have strong opinions on the war the environment and the institutional church.  Many will rally to help a next door neighbor or organize relief efforts for Sudan and Haiti.

They’re asking ‘big questions and dreaming worthy dreams.’  Our opportunity to is to be along side them, accompany, mentor and provide places for leadership development.  We’re there to resource those who work with them in the local parish and diocesan contexts.  We offer places to go deeper in their faith journey through internships like our partnership with mission personnel in the  young adult service corps, short-term internships in partnership with Jubilee centers and Episcopal Migration Ministries and the Episcopal Service Corps, too name a few.

"Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? I will, with God’s help."  (The Baptismal Covenant, Book of Common Prayer)

WORDaily
Just a few daily words and the WORD itself. Little reminders that keep the WORD in our life and our life in the WORD. Oh, and have you heard? The WORD is love.

A reflection by Marco Saavedra, Peer Minister, Kenyon College posted on Jim Wallis’ “God’s Politics” blog
March 21, 2010: With crowd turnout twice the expected size, I squeezed my way toward the main stage to hear faith, labor, community, and immigrant leaders tell America why we need to reform immigration. However, the speeches were largely muffled by the chants of the thousands who rarely, if ever, have their voices heard.
