You may have missed the Juno-nominated children’s band when it did a series of performances at The Drake Hotel earlier this year.
That’s because the Monkey Bunch concerts were all sold out.
But there’s good news for fans of the popular children’s band that’s known to delight both knee-high rockers and their parents.
You can win tickets to one of two concerts at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre, Sunday, May 1st just by leaving a comment on this page.
Parentcentral.ca and the Monkey Bunch are partnering up to give away two prizes of four tickets, one for show at 1 p.m. and another for the second performance at 3 p.m.
The show’s timing the day before the election is perfectly apropos for a band whose latest album is called Power to the Little People.
In fact, the concert is called Vote Monkey Bunch, Party, Party.
Band cofounder Shoshana Sperling explains the thinking behind the event: “The outcome of every election impacts the little people the very most. They are affected by all of the big issues: childcare, healthcare, education and learning how to care about people instead of money. The youth of today will be fixing our mistakes on this planet for years and years to come. And at Monkey Bunch headquarters we already know that kids can tell grown-ups to eat locally, stop idling their cars and stop littering.”
That view is clear on the band’s Juno-nominated album with tracks like “Don’t Let Your Cars Idle” and “The Stream.” In the former, a bit of spoken word in the middle cracks kids up with the question, “Were you born with wheels on your feet?” and the latter says water should be free.
Sperling says the band believes that kids can convince grown-ups that they need to vote in order to help the planet.
“We are counting on the kids of Canada to let the big people know that a real hero casts a vote.”
