A bruised earth Journey Through the West Bank

The following video was shot in the occupied West Bank in October 2008. Drawing on footage from Nablus, Balata, and Hebron, the short video montage attempts to piece together the sights and images of Palestine.

Visions of the Freedom for Palestine Rally - London May 10, 2008

The following video ‘collage’ of sights and sounds shot during the recent Freedom for Palestine Rally in Central London on Saturday May 10, 2008 - hopefully provides a bit of background on this impressive day in the capital - seeing over 20,000 protestors commemorating the 60 years since the Nakba (The Catastrophe of the Palestinian People) and corresponding founding of Israel.

Featuring sections of speeches by British MP George Galloway and Professor Manuel Hassassian (UK Ambassador for Palestine), the following video attempts to capture (through photos, videos, and music) the spirit of the demonstration. Other speakers on the day included Dr Mustafa Barghouti (elected Palestinian Legislative Council member), Richard Burden MP (chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Palestine) and former MP, Tony Benn.

Bruised Earth - Visions of Palestine

One thing I have struggled with since returning from Palestine, is a method of putting sound and movement to the intensity of the situation - both characters & culture - I witnessed first-hand. The following quick video montage of sites and visions from Jerusalem and the West Bank is therefore a first attempt.

Music by the Mountain Goats and John Darnielle who’s imagery of a ‘bruised earth’ has obviously had its impact on the new site: bruisedearth.org.

Discussion on the Occupation (Hebron, West Bank)

This video is a rough collection of discussions with an exceptional man I met during my time in the West Bank. Guide and activitist Abu Hassan not only showed me sides of the West Bank few people have seen (including the partitioned refugee camp of Deit Albarid) but took very good care of me and my fellow travelers in a potentially dangerous and extremely volatile situation in Hebron.

This discussion was filmed in a Palestinian home in central Hebron - and captures some common themes I experienced in discussions with Palestinians in Jerusalem and across the West Bank.

You may need earphones to hear well - but it’s well worth the 10 minutes.
