Real Life Iron Man Suits

Seeing Mark 1-3 armor in the first Iron Man film was cool. We got to see the suit from its inceptions as Tony Stark escaped his captors by inventing his alter ego. Seeing the “Transformers“-like Mark 5 in in Iron Man 2 allowed for an even higher geek factor. Who knows what Iron Man 3 or The Avengers movies will bring us in terms of updated Mark models (We’d love to see the modular armor), but we can rest assured that Jon Favreau and Joss Whedon are going to show us something new.

For those of us caught in the tenuous space between fantasy and reality, the Iron Man suit represents something amazing. Tony Stark is a superhero that could actually exist someday. Yes, Iron Man armor is many years away but many of the premises behind it are possible, and it hasn’t prevented the premier scientists in the field of robotics from making huge leaps in the field. The first efforts may be rudimentary but they represent endless possibility (cue mecha fantasy of the last scene in Matrix Revolutions). Here’s a look at what robonerds have managed to create so far.

8 Bit + Lego + NES = Ninja Moped

Back in the prehistoric days of 2009 a couple of Swedes known as Rymdreglage released an homage to the 8-bit video games of their youth in the form of 8-Bit Trip. The video which took over 1500 hours to make, has garnered over 7 million views and continues to be an inspiration for fans of the Bitpop genre. Check out the video below and prepare to overload on 8-bit nostalgia combined with a renaissance of Lego fantasy.

Since their smattering of Youtube fame, Rymdreglage has rebranded themselves Ninja Moped, a fine name but a little bit singular for our tastes. The group has begun a web series featuring the same 8-bit Lego creativity with a bunch of the classic NES games. Haven’t you always wanted to see Rampage animated by Legos? The stop-motion looks amazing, if not a little time intensive, and the original 8-bit music will have you remembering the days when you couldn’t get the music for Castlevania III out of your head.

Episode 3 was just released this past week, so catch up on the whole Ninja Moped series and yearn for the days when playing 8-bit video games and Legos was the biggest responsibility you had.

The Conduit: Gameplay Trailer

First-person shooters are probably the best genre for allowing the Wii to flex its motion-based gameplay muscles. The Wii’s pointer functionality basically turns every Wiimote into a gun way more sensitive than any light gun you have used before. Recently, we have only been seeing unfortunate uses of the Wii pointer technology in the shooter genre, with Red Steel being one of the only FPS games for the Wii, which itself got a lukewarm reception even though it was a launch title. The Conduit, however, was designed from the ground up for the Wii, and this isn’t some happy-go-lucky monkey-shooting-bananas FPS, this is you facing off against Aliens to decide the fate of humanity. Now that is hardcore.

OK, guys, here is a project for all of you out there in Ninja Land. I want to see if we, collectively, can list every meme that has graced the gloriously and multifariously pimpled face of the Internet. Everything from Interior Crocodile Alligator to Lolcats. Actually, that’s a good place to start.

1. Interior Crocodile Alligator
2. Lolcats
3. Motivational Posters

Take it from here!

Update: Since this list was first begun several months ago, our humble (yet Gigantic) Internet Meme List has become the single most-visited such list on the Web. And yet, most of you visitors have been lurking without posting. So … have at it, Lurkers! We’re glad to have you skulking about on our site, but we’d be even gladder to have you add a meme or two that we’ve missed!

So when the first Transformers came out I saw it in IMAX and I enjoyed it well enough. Now a sequel is coming out and somehow I feel like it is nothing more than a ploy to make money. I don’t have high expectations for quality, but I’ll still see it opening night. What do you guys think?
