Judge Rejects Wiretap Dismissal in Insider Case, Rebukes FBI

Updated ET

A judge ruled that prosecutors may use secret recordings of a former trader's phone calls at his insider-trading trial, even while rebuking investigators for making "egregious" errors by listening to personal calls between the defendant and his wife.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Sullivan rejected former trader Craig Drimal's request to throw out at least a month of wiretaps made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, ruling that eight improperly monitored calls didn't justify tossing out more than 1,000 the government recorded in total.
