AP Hires Former ABC Executive for Licensing Effort

The Associated Press has tapped former ABC News president David Westin to head its News Licensing Group, the recently formed entity designed to help news organizations get compensated for material that is republished online and on other digital outlets.

The News Licensing Group, established in February by the AP's board of directors and expected to launch this summer, is the newspaper industry's answer to ASCAP, an organization that helps songwriters get paid for every song played in public.
