	Addison, Wilbur Wilbur Addison was living in Denver, Colorado in 1964 when he was recorded. He came to Colorado 1946. He was a teacher. He moved to Colorado from Buchanan County, Virginia where he learned many of his songs. He remembered learning most of his songs around 1920. He accompanied himself on the guitar and the banjo-ukelele.
	Alexander, John T. John T. Alexander was living in Lamar, Colorado when he was recorded in 1961 and 1965. He was born in Schuyler, Missouri on February 4, 1874. He came to Colorado in 1944. He learned songs from his mother and workers on ranches. He lived in Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.

	Bryce, Janie Irene (Harris) (Mrs. Malcolm Robinson) Janie Bryce was recorded in 1962 in Englewood, Colorado at the age of 83. She was born in Silver Plume, Colorado in 1879. Her parents moved to Silver Plume in 1876 from New Jersey. She learned songs from neighbors and traveling entertainers at age 13-17. She wrote the songs in a notebook. Her husband was born in Scotland and was a miner of coal, gold, and silver in Colorado.

	Byers, Jane (Mrs. Charles) Mary Jane Byers was born September 26, 1926 in Junction City, Kansas. She was married to Charles Byers who was the Assistant Dean of the College of Music at the University of Colorado for 33 years. Mrs. Byers taught voice privately and sang with the Boulder Civic Opera. She also played the autoharp. She was recorded in Boulder in 1950.
	Camp, A. J. Mr. Camp played the banjo on tunes recorded with Sam Craig in 1952.
	Conilogue, C. E. and Rachel Rachel Conilogue was born in Pinebluff, Wyoming in 1912. The Conilogues were living in Niwot, Colorado at the time they were recorded in 1963. She grew up on a ranch in Hotchkiss, Colorado near Paonia. She learned songs from her parents and also from other young people at parties where singing songs was part of the entertainment.
	Cook, Hazel Hull (Mrs. Leroy) Hazel Cook was born September 12, 1884 in Butler County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Lewis Byram and Eliza Sinclair Hull. She married Leroy W. Cook in 1906. They moved to Boulder in 1916. Music was an important part of her life. She played and taught the mandolin. She was an honor graduate of the University of Colorado. The songs she sings were learned from her mother when she was a child. Mrs. Cook died in 1989.
	Cook, Leroy Dr. Leroy Cook was recorded in Boulder, Colorado in 1950 and 1952. He was born in Iowa in 1881 and moved to Kansas 1890. He came to Colorado in 1913 and to Boulder in 1916. He was a dentist. Dr. Cook learned most of his songs from his father who was a Quaker preacher. The Quakers were opposed to dancing. One of the neighbors, who had moved to Kansas from Missouri, brought play-party songs with him. These songs included dance steps but, since they were called play- party songs and were similar to games, the Cook children were allowed to take part. A number of the songs that Dr. Cook sings on the recordings are play party songs.
	Craig, Sam Sam Craig was living on Sugarloaf Mountain, Boulder, Colorado when he was recorded in 1952. He was born Aug. 25, 1864, in Brooklyn, New York. He was reared in Garden City, Kansas. He came to Boulder County in 1909 and was a prospector, miner, and fiddler. The fiddle tunes he plays on the recordings were ones he had played at dances in and near Boulder. He died March 29, 1955.
	Crosby, Esther Esther Crosby was recorded in Loveland, Colorado in August 1959 with her daughters, Zethyl Gates and Dorothy Williamson. She learned the songs when she was growing up. Some songs were learned in Oklahoma before she moved to Colorado. She played the piano for singing at family gatherings and for song fests with her daughters when they were children in Loveland.
	Eskin, Sam Sam Eskin was living in Woodstock, New York and was visiting Boulder in 1950 and 1963 when he was recorded with several of the other singers. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He left home at age 17 to explore the world. He began collecting folksongs about 1923. He died September 7, 1974.

	Gates, Zethyl (Mrs. Reginal) Zethyl Gates was recorded in Loveland, Colorado in August 1959 with her mother, Esther Crosby, and her sister, Dorothy Williamson. She learned songs from her mother who had learned the songs when she was growing up. Zethyl and her sisters grew up in Loveland. She remembered her mother playing the piano and she and her sisters singing the songs when she was a child. Her mother had learned some of the songs in Oklahoma before moving to Colorado.
	Graham, Ernest S. Ernest S. Graham was recorded in Lafayette, Colorado in 1962. He was born Oct. 5, 1882 in Uhl, Kansas, Smith County. He came to Colorado in 1912. His father came from Indiana to Kansas. He learned songs from his father, Henry Rogers Graham, and neighbors in Kansas.
	Greer, Beulah (Mrs. C. O.) Beulah Greer was recorded in 1963 and 1964 in Boulder, Colorado. She learned songs from her father, George W. Etheridge, who moved to Eastern Colorado in 1887. Her father's family was originally from England. In America they settled in Virginia then moved to Kentucky where Mr. Etheridge grew up. Mrs. Greer's grandmother on her mother's side was from Tennessee.
	Hull, Lois Fern Lois Hull (the sister of Mrs. Hazel Hull Cook) was living in Pueblo, Colorado when she was recorded in 1952. She was in Boulder with her sister for the recording session. The songs she knew were brought from Ohio to Kansas by her mother, Elizabeth E. Hull. Lois was a graduate of the University of Colorado.
	Hutchins, Emma Rachel Moomaw Emma Hutchins was recorded in 1961 and 1965 in Boulder, Colorado. She was born in 1893 in Longmont, Colorado. Her parents came to Colorado from Nebraska. Mrs. Hutchins learned most of her songs as a child from her mother, around 1897. Her mother had learned the songs from relatives in Maine and Massachusetts.
	Martin, Martha Martha Martin was living in Granada, Colorado when she was recorded in 1963 and 1964. She was born and reared in Bronte, Texas, the daughter of Ruth Hill Peterson and Jerome Peterson. Mrs. Martin's family came to Texas from Louisiana and Mississippi. She learned her songs from her mother around 1910.
	Martin, William Jerome William Martin was recorded in Lafayette, Colorado when he was recorded in 1963. He was a teacher. He was the son of Martha Martin from whom he learned the songs he sings on the recordings.

	Taylor, Edith Cummings Edith Taylor Cummings was recorded in Boulder, Colorado in 1969. Her grandmother from was from Kansas and had moved there from Kentucky. Her family was originally from North Carolina. Mrs. Taylor learned songs from this grandmother when she visited the family in Nebraska.
	Thomas, Mary O. Mary O. Thomas was a student in Denver, Colorado, 1961-62. She was a cousin of James Baxter Peyton. She learned the songs she sings from Miss Mary Ellen Sandiford, her great aunt. Miss Sandiford was born in 1869 in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana and died in 1936.
	Trainor, Fred Fred Trainor was recorded in Fowler, Colorado in 1962. He was 71 at that time. He was born east of Denver, between Akron and Limon. The closest town was Thurman, Colorado. His father was a rancher. He learned a lot of his songs from the cowboys who worked on the family ranch or who were traveling through the area.
	Van Horn, Julia (Mrs. Benton) JuliaVan Horn was recorded in Boulder, Colorado on December 18, 1961. She was born in 1879 in Missouri. She grew up in Savannah, Missouri in Andrew County. She learned her songs from hearing them sung. Her husband grew up in the same area. He was a musician, a violinist. She learned some of her songs from him. She moved from Missouri to Colorado in 1958.
	Williamson, Dorothy Dorothy Williamson was the sister of Zethyl Gates and daughter of Esther Crosby. She learned songs from her mother who had learned the songs when she was growing up. Dorothy and her sisters grew up in Loveland. She remembered her mother playing the piano, and she and her sisters singing the songs when she was a child. Her mother had learned some of the songs in Oklahoma before moving to Colorado.
