OPXT Details
Opnext, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, designs and manufactures optical subsystems, modules, and components for communication uses primarily in North America, Europe, Japan, and Asia Pacific. The company’s optical communications components consist of transmitters and receivers that include a hermetically packaged compound semiconductor laser or photo detectors, which utilize internally fabricated lasers or photo detectors built from indium phosphide or gallium arsenide compound semiconductor materials systems. Its optical transceiver modules convert signals between electrical and optical for transmitting and receiving data over fiber optic networks, and provide the physical communications interface for data communications and telecommunications systems. The optical transceiver modules are used for client-side interfaces consisting of short distance dedicated fiber cables, as well as line-side interfaces, which include long distance transmission with shared fiber cable and amplification media. Opnext’s subsystems provide 40Gbps or 100Gbps long-distance optical communications. The company’s customers include companies that design and manufacture laser-based products, including medical and scientific systems, industrial bar code scanners, professional grade construction and surveying tools, gun sights and other security equipment, display and projection systems for mini-projectors and other projection applications, sensors for robotics and industrial automation, and printing engines for high-speed laser printers and plain paper copiers. Opnext, Inc. founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Fremont, California.

Key developments for OPNEXT INC (OPXT)
Opnext, Inc. announced that it will display its next generation 40G differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) MSA module during OFC/NFOEC, being held March 8, 2011 through March 10, 2011 in Los Angeles. Opnext's OTM-440S is a 300-pin module in a 3.5" x 4.5" small form factor mechanical package and is designed for metro, regional and long/ultra long haul optical transmission applications. The Opnext OTM-440S is a complement to the existing OTM-440 module, currently in volume production. It is compatible with 50GHz ROADM technologies and, combined with tunable dispersion compensators (TDCs), can be readily deployed in DWDM networks engineered for 10G non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulation formats. With its smaller form factor and lower power consumption, the Opnext OTM-440S is ideal for applications requiring high port density.
Opnext, Inc. announced the production release of its 40GBASE-LR4 CFP transceiver, the TRC5B20. The 40GBASE-LR4 CFP transceiver is a pluggable module capable of transmitting and receiving 40Gigabit Ethernet and OTU-3 traffic over reaches of up to 10km on single mode fiber. The multi-rate and multi-protocol capability of the transceiver gives Opnext customers greater flexibility in their system designs for connecting high speed switches and routers, as well as large datacenters where the 100m reach of multimode fiber is not sufficient. With the release of the IEEE-802.3ba standard published in June 2010, interest in the new 40GbE and 100GbE transceivers has increased dramatically and system vendors are already working on releasing their next generation products supporting this standard. Using Opnext's expertise in developing low power distributed feedback (DFB) lasers, the 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver design has uncooled CWDM (coarse wavelength-division multiplexed) DFB lasers that deliver superior performance while consuming less power. 40GBASE-LR4 technology offers OEMs a lower cost, longer reach alternative to traditional 40G Sonet/SDH client interfaces and makes 40G deployments even more economically viable in high speed switches and edge routers.
Opnext, Inc. expected to report Fiscal Year 2011 results on May 5, 2011. This event was calculated by Capital IQ (Created on February 8, 2011).
