Important Berlin Tourism Information

The official language of Berlin is German, however you will find that most Berliners speak very good English, so you won’t usually have a problem communicating while you are there.

The currency used is the Euro, there are seven notes (5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Euros) as well as eight coins. There are plenty of ATM’s around Berlin and most accept international bank cards. You can also easily change currency around Berlin. The easiest places to change money are at post offices, the airport and banks.

Berlin tourism is booming all year round, however you may want to plan your trip around the climate. The winters in Berlin can get quite cold, and snow isn’t uncommon during January and February. Cold winds from Russia can bring subzero temperatures to Berlin in the winter months. The summer months are a pleasant, warm temperature.

The Berlin Wall

One of the most popular attractions for Berlin tourism is the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall is the most significant symbols of the end of the division of West and East Berlin. The wall was erected in 1961 and it stopped residents of either side from visiting the other – with few restrictions. Other attractions include: the DDR Museum, Checkpoint Charlie Museum, Galerie Eigen+Art and Hitler’s Bunker. Hitler’s Bunker has been turned into a parking lot, however you can see the plaque that details what happened there.
