The official language of Amsterdam is Dutch however you will find that almost all people speak very good English there.

You can visit Amsterdam all year round, however the climate varies significantly at different parts of the year. January and February are the coldest months and it can get as to as low as -1 degree Celsius (30 degrees Fahrenheit).

The warmest months are July and August where you can expect it to be an average of 22 degrees Celsius (72 degrees Fahrenheit).

Traveling round Amsterdam is easy with a great public transport network. Trams are the most popular method of transport but there is also a metro, buses and bicycles to hire. People tend not to drive their cars in the city centre as the narrow roads and masses of pedestrians make it very challenging.

Tourism in Amsterdam has plenty to offer – ranging from museums, churches and buildings through to red-light districts, breweries and open air markets.

If you are fascinated by history then you should visit one of the most popular tourist destinations in Amsterdam – the Anne Frank House. Located on the Prinsengracht canal, the Anne Frank House is a museum that showcases her amazing war-time story as well as giving visitors a glance at the preserved hiding place of her and her family.

It is one of the largest tourist destinations in Amsterdam. De Wallen consists of a large network of alleyways in which tiny rooms have been rented by prostitutes who offer their services to passers-by by standing in the windows.

The area also has a wide range of sex stores, theatres and peep shows – there is even a sex museum! Many people simply go to have a look around at this famous destination.

There are always festivals and events happening in and around Amsterdam no matter what time of year you visit.

One of the most popular events in Amsterdam tourism is Queensday. Every year on the 30th April, the Dutch celebrate the birthday of the Queen Mother. It is a public holiday and celebrations and parties are held across the country. In the capital, Queensday is always an open air festivity that attracts over 750,000 visitors every year.

If you like performing arts then don’t miss out on the Holland Festival held in early June each year. It is the largest international performing arts festival in the country and you can see a wide range of acts including opera, theatre, dance and music. There are also a selection of conferences and workshops to attend.

Throughout the year there are always music festivals to cater to all different tastes. For example, ‘5 Days Off Amsterdam’ is a very popular electronic music festival that is held over five days in early July.
