Bev Perdue’s election as North Carolina’s first female governor follows a distinguished tenure in public service focused on creating 21st century jobs, fighting for world-class public schools, and improving the health of our people. Before entering public service, Perdue worked as a public school teacher and as director of geriatric services at a community hospital in her adult hometown of New Bern, North Carolina. She holds a Ph.D. in Education Administration. During her time as lieutenant governor, she chaired the state's Health and Wellness Trust Fund, and worked to protect North Carolina’s military bases during the BRAC process. She also served in the N.C. House of Representatives and in the N.C. Senate, where she served as appropriations chair.

Perdue is married to Bob Eaves, and their family includes four children, six grandchildren and two dogs.
