Welcome to Kangaroo Point

Kangaroo Point cliffs

When Kangaroo Point is mentioned we immediately think of rhyolite cliffs.

These cliff formations were not formed by nature but by early mining and are now the major rock climbing attraction for Brisbane's abseilers. Kangaroo Point is also a popular spot for picnics, walking and cycling. Particularly popular is the walk under the Story Bridge to Dockside.

Once a working class area, Kangaroo Point is now home to expensive highrise developments, cafes and restaurants.

High up on the cliff among the modern buildings are historic St Mary's Anglican Church and the modern Mormon Temple.

Directly under the cliffs stand Brisbane's famous Story Bridge Hotel originally known as the Kangaroo Point Hotel and Captain Burke Park a popular picnic and BBQ area.

Other landmarks include the steel sculptures from World EXPO 88 on the Kangaroo Point Boardwalk, Lower River Terrace.

The most well known drinking hole is the recently refurbished Pineapple Hotel overlooking the park and always packed on AFL and cricket game days at the Gabba (a short walk away).

The Boomerang 24 hour takeaway is popular with taxi drivers and truckies.
