Alberta Tourism map makers hope you’ll send in your favourite trail

EDMONTON — The Alberta government is putting together a trail map for the area southwest of Edmonton and is asking for the public’s help.

It is holding the first of three open houses on Monday night at the Percy Page Centre at 11759 Groat Road.

The maps will show all kinds of trails, including motorized and non-motorized. Trail builders and users are being asked to help make the map complete and user-friendly.

“The big goal is to make sure people are aware of what purpose the trails are for,” said Erin Larson, a spokeswoman for Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation.

The new map will cover the area from Highway 2 to the Rockies, from Edmonton to Hinton in the north and Rocky Mountain House to Rimbey in the south.

Tourism has already completed two maps for the northeast and the northern Rockies.

The government is also holding information sessions in Edson on March 2 and in Rimbey on March 3.
