Speech therapist Lionel Logue was nothing if not discreet. He downplayed King George VI’s stutter as a mechanical problem, resolved through exercises. After Logue died, however, his daughter-in-law Anne spoke up bluntly. She said Logue had helped George VI (1895-1952) not just with therapeutic exercises, but by being a father figure to him. Logue “was a super good daddy where George V had been a ghastly one.”
