On Saturday, members of the B.C. Liberal party will choose a new leader who will immediately become the provincial premier, replacing Gordon Campbell. But who will those Liberal members be?

Our crystal ball is malfunctioning. Yet there are those who seem to think we've got access to divine foresight. It's been asserted in a few opinion pieces that we have been planning since 2007, or maybe 2003, to influence the outcome of the current leadership races. If only we were so clairvoyant.

Reduced waiting times are good for our health

As we, and those vying for political leadership in British Columbia, debate the merits of the HST, let's accept that while none of us likes to pay taxes, it is logical that a single tax is simpler and cheaper to administer than multiple taxes (GST and PST).

Canada needs to start thinking about where it will get the workers it needs to keep the economy moving.

Sending more money to feds won't create jobs in B.C

In 2007, the Government of Canada sought the collaboration of the provinces and territories to keep Canadian industry competitive by driving down business taxes. The plan will see combined federal and provincial/territorial corporate income tax rates drop to about 25 per cent by 2013, one of the lowest tax rates in the G8.

Patrick Moore, who recently published Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout, uses his status as a former member to add clout to his pro-industry rhetoric.

Moore's 'sensible' approach good for industry, but not the planet

At Greenpeace we know when you challenge powerful forces, you need to be ready to put up with criticism and attacks from many quarters. What is frustrating is having to counter attacks from an individual who apparently used to share our environmental values but now uses his experience with Greenpeace to market himself to the very corporations that attack us.

Medical students need more resident spots

The role of a parent is to teach one's child to perform daily tasks so that when she reaches adulthood she is prepared to face the world on her own. Parents teach their children to walk, talk, eat, dress and drive. During this teaching, parents accompany their children, whether it be holding their hands in public, or sitting in the passenger seat of a car. There are times when the parents take a step back and allow their child to make his or her own decisions, and there are times when experience necessitates taking the wheel.
