Sarah Richardson is painting a bright picture for those looking to spruce up their homes.

Her latest show, Sarah 101, which premiered on HGTV last month, presents her vision of the building blocks for great design.

Tie that in with her recently launched paint line -75 colours that enable you to reproduce her signature palette -and Richardson is quickly becoming a one-woman decorating machine, once you add in a growing agenda of projects.

"I've got [less than] a month left shooting Sarah's House, Season 4, which is an interesting adventure; I'm about to start writing a book and I'm working on some new products. I have lots going on," says Richardson.

Her overall game plan, she says, is to motivate everyone who is interested in decorating.

"The focus of my new show [Sarah 101] is about empowering viewers and homeowners to accomplish the projects themselves. Essentially, the new show is like a course or a tutorial on the basics of decorating or renovating," says Richardson.

"My goal is to give everyone the knowledge they need to accomplish great results at home."

That said, Richardson is quick to add that Sarah 101 isn't just about rules.

"There's nothing that says you have to do it my way. It's about me wanting to share. If you like what I do and you want to emulate how I design, I want to give you the tools to do it," she says.

Another set of tools she's providing is her new paint line.

"For years, I have wanted to create a colour collection. Partnering with Para Paints has allowed me to share my sense of colour and my passion for paint," says Richardson, who chose the 75 colours as a reflection of her decorating tastes and styles.

"I've always been known for my colour sensibility, and I know selecting paint colours can be really tricky for homeowners. Essentially, I'm looking to take the guesswork out of it for homeowners and make it foolproof."

And while homeowners can find her paint line at Lowe's or independent dealers that carry Para Paints, it will be a little while before her book becomes available.

"With the book, I'm aiming for fall, but that may be ambitious," says Richardson.

Richardson was also mum on Sarah's House 4, but suggests it will be as good as Season 3, which won her a Gemini for best host in a lifestyle/practical information or performing arts program or series.

"It was really exciting to win it. I was slightly overwhelmed. I was the girl jumping around on stage. I was pretty psyched.

"I sort of believe it was more of a cumulative win rather than just one season. It was 12 seasons of blood, sweat and tears," says Richardson.

Whether Sarah 101 or one of her other Ontariobased shows will ever film in other parts of the country seems unlikely at this point. Richardson says the shows have a limited budget, but adds that a letter-writing campaign requesting this couldn't hurt.

In the meantime, she will do the next best thing. "We're trying to share the solutions and make them universal to people across Canada and the U.S.

"My goal has always been to share any tips and tricks I possibly can with my viewers. I look at this as my teaching role, and I don't think my secrets should be locked in a vault. They should be readily accessible and available to everyone."
