The estate that bling built

A diamond baron's precious gem

Lemon trees and lavender fields mark the start to a South African summer in the Cape Winelands. The meandering road along the picturesque vineyards of Stellenbosch, however, is now paved with diamonds, thanks to what international jeweller Laurence Graff considers a good view and an exquisite Chardonnay.

Almost a decade after acquiring the land once allocated to 16th century French Huguenots, The Delaire Graff Estate is complete and overflowing with Graff's lofty ambitions of the valley oasis becoming one of South Africa's most sought after destinations.

Guests can sip, spa or slumber at the estate that promises a utopian view at every high altitude vista, whether it be spending a vintage afternoon on the boutique Estate patio, the indigenous Cape Dutch/African-inspired dining room, one of 10 exclusive overnight lodges or the state-of-the-art spa's infinity pool melting into the valley sky. Graff's immersion in the business of beauty is evident in every last detail, from the imposing sculptural leopards that grace the grounds to the floors of the Delaire Graff made entirely of peach stones. Among the Estate's offerings are roses, shiraz, and their award-winning Delaire Sauvignon Blanc 2009.

Soon, Graff will be including a diamond salon showcasing his world famous gemstones and showpiece watches.
