Every Sunday sports fans sound off

- The NHL has a real dilemma: Skill players like Sidney Crosby want to show how gritty and tough they are, but as soon as they get touched, the game is too violent.

- Dan Barnes's article on Mario Lemieux couldn't have been more accurate. Any time there's a bench-clearing brawl, Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky come out of the woodwork to be complete hypocrites, considering both of them played with Marty McSorley, who nearly killed Donald Brashear.

- Player safety isn't solely the responsibility of the NHL. The NHLPA should be instilling more respect among players.

- I'm tired of hockey, where they fight and play rough. I don't like that game and I wish we had other things in The Journal besides hockey.

- It was rather ironic to see Mario take a "leadership role" for his team concerning all the cheap shots and goon tactics they were subjected to at the hands of the Islanders. Maybe he should look into a bigger problem named Matt Cooke.

- Correct me if I'm wrong, Colin and Gary, but is a punch directed at someone's face not a deliberate head shot?

- I'm really glad the Oilers and Eskimos are doing so crappy, because it puts everything into perspective. We can now enjoy watching curling -except for the games that aren't shown because they're airing Oilers games. Please, TSN, Shaw, show us some more curling, because we really enjoy it.

- If I see one more curling "action shot" of a squatting and yelling skip, I'm going to be tempted to ignore the sports section.

- I am distressed to not see anything in the sports section relating to NASCAR.

- It boggles my mind that there is next to no media coverage of the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax but lots of replaying of the events for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

- If the Oilers played like they did on Tuesday against Dallas, they would be in the playoffs.

- "Oil wins one for Khabby"? I think that's backwards. It should be "Khabby wins one for the Oilers."

- C'mon Khabby, suck it up. You ? drove drunk and got caught. Serve your time like a man and stop trying to weasel your way out of it.

- Put Khabibulin on the block and see if there are any takers. Maybe someone who is fighting for a playoff spot needs a good backup goalie.
