EDMONTON - Style visited a few of River City’s prominent home fashion retailers to check out some of the hottest trends in decor for 2011.
The Lightform Design Centre on 124th Street houses some of the most forward- thinking retailers around, such as Dwell Modern and Appliance Gallery.
Brad Taschuk, proprietor of Appliance Gallery, says the retailer is seeing a brisk market in lifestyle appliances such as built-in coffee makers, steam ovens, speed ovens (a combination of microwave and heat) and multi-zone wine storage units.
Dwell Modern specializes in a range of urbane, sophisticated, contemporary furnishings for the home.
Its retail space showcases some major trends: a rich, intense wall colour tempered with neutrals, a large-scale sofa accompanied by high-style leather side chairs and oversize, terrazzo-stone vases.
Alana Gannon Schilf, proprietor at Inspired Home Interiors, notes a continued interest in iconic mid-century pieces such as the Saarinen laminate pedestal dining table (designed in 1956), and brightly coloured items such as the Doctor Yes chairs from Kartell.
Nick-Cole Fleshman of Vivid Inc. Concepts Lighting and Design carries a diverse collection of lighting in all price ranges.
The Morosini spring lighting may be installed as a ceiling fixture or as shown as a trio of wall sconces. The Swarovski architectural line of dazzling lighting is exclusive to Vivid Inc. in Edmonton and includes a variety of wall fixtures and pendant lights — truly jewelry for the home.
