Following a fatal car accident, a beautiful but vapid wannabe model is accidentally reincarnated as the recently deceased Jane Bingum (Brooke Elliott), a brilliant and thoughtful plus-size attorney. Now, with the help of her sassy assistant (Margaret Cho), Jane must reconcile her former beauty queen mentality with her new mind – and body.

At the close of last season, Deb was ready to let go of her past and embrace her new life as Jane. But the unexpected arrival of Jane’s “secret” husband, Ethan (Devon Gummersall), at her doorstep left her with more questions than ever. To make matters worse, Jane may be disbarred after breaching client-attorney confidentiality when, against the firm’s advisement, she reported her client for fraud. Faced with a new love triangle and the uncertainty of her career, Jane must, once again, chart out a new future for herself.

As Season 1 opens, a fatal car accident brings a beautiful but vapid model named Deb face-to-face with a geeky gatekeeper tasked with evaluating her worthiness to enter Heaven. But when Deb balks, a twist of fate leads to her being reincarnated in the body of Jane Bingum, a brilliant plus-size attorney who has just been felled by a gunshot.

With the aid of her best friend Stacy and her sassy assistant Teri, this ditzy ex-beauty queen must learn to live as a brilliant and generously proportioned attorney working in a high-powered law office. It’s a task made even tougher when Deb’s grieving boyfriend joins the firm, which already includes a heartless associate who’s not about to let anyone stand in her way.

With these contradictory and competing perspectives to guide her, Jane must navigate the treacherous waters of female identity in a modern world.
