Valentine's Day Gift Boxes

By Sarah Jones

In this tutorial we will be making little boxes that are perfect for that homemade treat you are making for your Valentine. If you aren’t the baking type fill them with chocolate kisses or your loved one’s favourite candy!

Materials:

  • Craft Paper
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Exact-o Knife
  • Hot Glue Gun

Directions:

  1. Cut the paper you’ve chosen into a 7.25” x 10” rectangle.

  2. Using your pencil and a ruler draw 5 rows that are 1.5”, 2”, 1.5”, 2”, .25”. Now create two columns that are 1.25” wide on each side of your paper. See diagram below to help.

  3. Next we will be scoring the lines you’ve just made to make sure that when you fold the paper it doesn’t split or crack. Take your ruler and line it up with your first drawn line on your sheet of paper. Now trace the line with your exact-o knife as if you were going to cut it. But don’t cut it! Use just enough pressure so that a natural fold line is created. If you are worried about cutting through the paper, a butter knife will also do the trick!

  4. Your paper should now be looking quite grid like. Using your scissors and the diagram below cut away the setions that are indicated in grey. The pink lines in the diagram show where to make single cuts once the grey area has been removed.

  5. Just a couple of steps left! Fold up what will be the sides of your box. You will notice that when you made the single cuts tabs were created. Fold those tabs in and secure one on top of the other with glue. Do this to both sides.

  6. You should now have two long tabs [with a fold in the middle of them] coming from the base of your box. One end at a time, apply a dab of glue to the furthest square and fold up and over the wall you created in the previous step.

  7. Because of the scoring we did in step 3, you should now be able to easily fold what has now become the lid of your box into place and you’re done!

Quick Tips!
It is a lot of folding and cutting but once you get comfortable with these steps have fun with the width and height of your boxes!
Have extra paper left over? Use it to make a cute gift tag!
