Venting

/vent-ing/ v.t. to give free play or expression to an emotion or passion

- I know there will be comments from the bleeding hearts saying police had no right to shoot the 17-year-old. Well, did the 17-year-old have the right to mug someone or have the right to come at the police officer with a bat and a knife?

- We are not a police state and the police should not be above the law. We need a judicial inquiry into the latest killing. It is unjustified. It is inexcusable.

- Where was our LRT/ETS secu-rity? People are mugging at the LRT station. What is this, a 9-4 job?

- Why does low-salt chicken broth cost more than regular broth? How is it more expensive to dump less salt in?

- So, Alberta taxpayers must pay $120,000 in legal costs so a French gentleman who broke a traffic law can prove a point for 1.9 per cent of the population of Alberta, most of whom don't plan to break any traffic laws anyway. Of course, a few lawyers will win and pocket all the change.

- I feel that the raise for Edmonton city council is a bit of a snow job.

- Should Edmonton start looking for a mayor who worries more about quality of life in the city (snow removal) than world fairs?

- The mayor says people wanted the streets cleared down to the pavement. I would like to know who those people are. I much preferred having the residential roads packed but driveable, compared with having to clear the four-foot piles of 50-pound chunks of ice and gravel just to get to the street.

- My thanks to the city plowing crew. Your creation of the windrows has allowed the rabbits to get above the carefully applied tree wraps to get to the bark on city trees.

- Flooding and a cyclone in Australia. Rioting in Cairo. Now tell me all about how you hate snowy roads and potholes.

- There is a sign on the LRT: "If you see someone doing graffiti, call 911." I can imagine the reaction of a 911 operator if someone did call. I'm sure there would be a number of choice words said.

- I have now waited over six months for an appointment with a cardiologist to have a stress test and assessment. No wonder there are lineups in ERs. You may wait a few hours, but hopefully not months.

- I wonder if all those so vocally criticizing MTV's new Skins realize the tidal wave of free publicity they've brought on for that program. I'm even a bit annoyed at myself for venting about it.

- If you are upset that a certain young entertainer's name appears too often in social media, don't repeat it. If you do, you are part of the problem.

- So you think Justin Bieber is beyond obnoxious. It could be worse: he could be American.

- Super Bowl halftime and a federal Conservative ad hits the screen. Please, God, let someone come up with a vision for this country other than we must vote Conservative because Michael Ignatieff somehow is a poorer choice than Mr. Harper to lead this country. Some choice! Glad it is not my political donation being wasted on the Conservative party.

- A question for Bob Baker and the Citadel Theatre after seeing August: Osage County: Why did you cast a Canadian-Asian actor to play the part of a North American native character? You brought in actors from all over the country to play the other parts. Were you not able to find a professional aboriginal actor good enough to portray herself?

Edmonton Rush rally to win first game of season 14-12

Edmonton Rush defenceman Bill Greer hadn’t scored all season, but he picked the perfect time to get his first of the National Lacrosse League season. With 1:13 left in the game, Greer was sprung on a breakaway and potted one past Washington Stealth goalie Tyler Richards to give the Edmonton Rush a 14-12 win on Friday at Rexall Place.
