JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- We're learning more about a police chase that ended in a nasty crash on Philips Highway Thursday night.
Action News obtained surveillance video showing Sean Owens walking into the S&S Food Store in Macclenny. It was moments before police say he walked to pump #8, pointed a gun at a Jacksonville woman, and drove off in her Ford Mustang.
According to police reports, the victim made one small request of the carjacker. She asked him if she could keep her purse. He let her.
Police say Owens hit I-10 and made his way in Jacksonville's Southside, with the Florida Highway Patrol hot on his tail.
About an hour later, that Mustang was reduced to twisted metal on Philips Highway.
"It was going 100, 80-100mph, with two flat tires on the front," said witness James Clark.
The crash startled Clark and his co-workers at Big Chief Tire.
He said, "First, I saw a state trooper in the middle of the road. And the next thing I know, another one pulled up in the car. And a mustang came by and t-boned him. Jumped the median and hit a van in oncoming traffic."
Baker County police say Owens had stolen a gun from his stepfather, before stealing the car. He wasn't hurt in the collision, but a state trooper was. We checked on the trooper's condition, and were told he'll be fine.
Owens was arrested. He's being held in the Duval County Jail on several charges including auto theft, theft of a weapon, and fleeing police.
He faces additional charges in Baker County.
